Hello.
I’m Dr. Park Hyun-joon of the Seoul branch of 리팅성형외과.

There is a saying that “you can tell a person’s age from neck wrinkles,”
and for that reason,
many people are concerned about improving neck wrinkles.
Neck wrinkles can be something you are born with from the start,
but like facial wrinkles,
the biggest cause is aging.
Once neck wrinkles appear like this,
it is difficult for them to disappear completely on their own.
They need to be improved through ongoing procedures or surgical methods.
In today’s post, I will explain neck wrinkle improvement procedures and surgical methods
in more detail.

The causes differ by type of neck wrinkles!
Neck wrinkles can be divided into
horizontal wrinkles / vertical wrinkles / fine wrinkles.
Horizontal wrinkles are often congenital,
but vertical wrinkles mostly occur because the muscles underneath the neck sag,
and the skin itself loses elasticity.

Both horizontal and vertical neck wrinkles
are realistically difficult to resolve completely,
and since both types can worsen with aging,
advance care is needed.
For improvement,
there are methods that combine injectable procedures, lasers,
and filler treatments to give the skin itself more elasticity,
and there is also surgical lifting with skin incisions
for better results and a longer-lasting effect.
Among surgical lifting procedures involving incisions,
I would like to introduce V-neck lifting, which is effective for improving neck wrinkles, in more detail.

V-neck lifting that improves the lower face and neck wrinkles at the same time
V-neck lifting is performed by making incisions in a VN shape along the area in front of and behind the earlobe
and along the back-neck hairline.
If the procedure is performed only with an incision behind the ear,
without an incision in front of the ear,
the neck line may be pulled only in the neck area,
creating a disconnect with the jawline.
Therefore, to improve both areas at the same time,
incisions are needed both in front of and behind the earlobe.

Next is the process of dissecting the SMAS layer
in the area to be improved and pulling it upward.
The SMAS layer, a fibromuscular layer between the subcutaneous fat layer and the muscle layer,
is a fundamental cause of wrinkles and aging.
If you pull it without dissecting the connective tissue between the skin layers,
the force trying to return it to its original position can reduce the lifting effect,
so dissection is an important step in lifting.
If the skin in the treatment area is pulled upward
and the sagging skin is also removed to finish the procedure,
both the lower face and neck wrinkles can be improved,
and by lifting from the face to the neck at once,
you can be more satisfied with a more natural and clear result.
V-neck lifting is effective for people who did not see a lifting effect on the facial line with procedures,
people who want a better lifting effect for neck wrinkles,
and people who have more chin fat than expected for their weight
or who are concerned about the lower face.
