The nose is located at the center of the face, so it has a major effect on one’s impression and overall look.
That is why many people seek improvement through nose surgery.
Nose surgery can use a variety of implants, and there are broadly four types.
Artificial implants, donated rib cartilage, autologous rib cartilage, and ear cartilage, among others.
If divided in more detail, there are even more names, but today I’ll talk only about autologous rib cartilage.
What is autologous rib cartilage?

Autologous rib cartilage nose surgery is a method in which cartilage from your own ribs is harvested and inserted into the nose.
The biggest advantage of autologous rib cartilage is that it uses cartilage taken from your own body,
so compared with donated rib cartilage, which uses someone else’s cartilage, or ear cartilage, which has weaker support,
the risk of side effects or absorption is lower.
In addition, artificial implants can be a good option for people whose skin is less sensitive,
but for those with sensitive skin, problems such as inflammation may occur.
Is autologous rib cartilage always the best implant?
Autologous rib cartilage is not a perfect choice for everyone.
It can vary depending on each person’s skin condition and nose condition, and the results can also differ depending on the hospital chosen,
so this should be carefully considered.

And when considering autologous rib cartilage nose surgery, a term you often come across is the “warping” phenomenon.
“Warping” refers to the phenomenon in which the shape of the nose bends to the left or right after surgery.
This is a side effect that occurs when the cartilage tends to bend if it is not properly processed before being used as nasal support.
Therefore, to minimize warping, it is important to choose a medical team that can properly harvest and process the cartilage.
I have introduced autologous rib cartilage nose surgery.
However, the most important thing is that diagnosis and surgical methods differ depending on each individual’s skin condition and nose condition,
so it is necessary to have a thorough consultation with the medical team before making a decision.
※ Depending on the individual, side effects such as inflammation, bleeding, or nerve damage may occur, so sufficient consultation with the medical team before surgery is necessary.
