What is lower blepharoplasty

When the lower eyelids sag downward with age, or when there are dark circles,

this is a surgery that smooths the area to make the under-eye area look brighter and younger, creating an improved impression.

Usually, fat is removed as well, or the surgery may be performed together with fat repositioning.

Indications for lower blepharoplasty

When the lower eyelids appear to have many wrinkles
When wrinkles make the skin look saggy
When wrinkles make you look older
When there are dark circles

Lower blepharoplasty procedure

1. Before anesthesia, the design is marked with special ink just below the eyelashes,

and local anesthesia is performed under sedation.

2. After local anesthesia, an incision is made along the design line.

3. Adequate dissection is performed between the muscle layer and the fat layer down to below the wrinkle line,

lifting the muscle and skin.

If there is a lot of fat, the fat is pulled downward to fill the depressed area,

and fat repositioning is performed with fixation sutures to smooth the area.

Fat repositioning can only be applied when there is abundant fat,

and cannot be applied when there is not much fat or when the eye area is already sunken.

4. The skin is pulled outward and upward with forceps

to smooth the wrinkles, and the excess skin is measured.

The amount to be removed is determined by designing according to the excess skin.

To prevent the skin from sagging again, it is fixed to the periosteum of the lateral canthus.

This is called lateral canthopexy.

5. An appropriate amount of skin is excised along the design line.

6. After skin excision, the skin is carefully sutured with fine thread.

After suturing is complete, the area is disinfected, a flesh-colored bandage is applied, and you can go home.

The stitches are removed after 4 to 5 days.

Examples of lower blepharoplasty

Postoperative care instructions for lower blepharoplasty

① For the three days after surgery, use the cold pack provided by the hospital

to apply cold compresses for 2 to 3 hours a day, for only 3 days.

You may apply cold compresses continuously for 2 hours,

or divide them into 20 to 30 minute sessions.

It is usually convenient to do this before going to sleep.

② Visit the clinic 1 to 2 days after surgery to disinfect the surgical site.

③ Visit the clinic on day 4 or 5 after surgery to have the stitches removed.

④ After the stitches are removed, you may wash your face and wear makeup,

and you may shower or use a sauna or steam room.

⑤ Swelling after surgery varies from person to person,

and will subside to some extent in about 7 to 14 days.

⑦ For about one week after surgery, refrain from alcohol and smoking.

⑧ Visit the clinic one month after surgery for follow-up.
