What is cheek fat liposuction?

There are two types of cheek fat.

One is the subcutaneous fat layer beneath the skin,

and the other is the fat pad beneath the cheek muscles.

Among these, the subcutaneous fat that can be removed by liposuction

can be suctioned out using a thin ultrasound cannula,

allowing the cheek contour to be refined into a more elegant egg-shaped line.

Simple liposuction under local anesthesia

Cheek fat liposuction is performed under local anesthesia rather than general anesthesia.

When performed under local anesthesia,

a painless sedative anesthesia is used so that there is no pain during the procedure.

The amount of fat removed varies from person to person,

and approximately 20 cc to 50 cc may be suctioned from one side.

The procedure takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Because the degree of facial obesity differs by individual, the amount of liposuction also varies.

Liposuction of facial areas such as the cheeks and neck requires delicate and precise suction.

Therefore, the operator’s skill and extensive experience are required.

Procedure using an ultrasound liposuction device

An ultrasound liposuction device refers to a liposuction machine equipped with an ultrasound generator.

Compared with conventional mechanical liposuction devices, it allows gentler suction,

Ultrasound is generated at the tip of the cannula, melting the fat into liquid so it can be suctioned out,

Precautions after cheek and jawline liposuction

Cheek fat liposuction should be performed after carefully determining the indication.

It is effective when the cheeks or jawline have a lot of subcutaneous fat,

but it is not effective when the jawbone is developed and spread outward, or when the muscles attached to the jawbone are developed.

Only when subcutaneous fat is confirmed through an accurate examination should the procedure be performed to achieve the desired result.

Post-liposuction care instructions

○ Go home immediately after the procedure.

○ Visit the clinic two days after the procedure to check the results and disinfect the liposuction area.

○ Starting from the fourth day after the procedure, apply warm compresses with a pack to help reduce swelling in the liposuction area quickly.

Side effects of liposuction

Therefore, uneven irregularities do not occur.

○ Side effects from anesthesia - cheek ultrasound liposuction is performed with local anesthesia only.

Because the issue of pain, the biggest drawback of local anesthesia, is addressed with sedative anesthesia, the procedure can be performed safely without pain or concern about anesthesia-related side effects.

○ Eating-related issues - cheek ultrasound liposuction is not performed through the inside of the mouth, so it does not affect eating at all.

You may eat immediately after the procedure.

○ Facial nerve damage - there are no nerves running through the subcutaneous fat.

Nerves run deep between the fascia layer and muscle layer, so there is no risk of facial nerve damage, making it a safe procedure.

Other procedure methods

○ AccuSculpt laser procedure

It is similar to the SmartLipo laser procedure, and it is a device that appeared later after demand for the SmartLipo laser procedure disappeared due to its insufficient effect.

However, like the SmartLipo laser procedure, in most cases the effect is below expectations or almost nonexistent.

In addition, severe swelling occurs, and heat damage to the skin can also happen.

New procedures should be approached with caution, as their effectiveness and side effects have not been verified and they often mislead consumers with indiscriminate false and exaggerated advertising.

Also, necrotic tissue or inflamed tissue cannot achieve the desired result unless it is removed by directly inserting a cannula.

○ SmartLipo laser procedure

This method uses laser energy to melt and remove subcutaneous fat, but the treatment effect is weak, so there is almost no volume-reduction effect.

Fat must be removed from the desired location in the desired amount, so there is no procedure as precise as directly removing fat with a cannula.

The degree to which externally applied laser passes through the skin and melts the subcutaneous fat underneath is very weak or has almost no effect, so you should not assume that the desired contour can be achieved this way.

○ Lipolysis injection (PPC injection)

This method dissolves fat using injections, but depending on the drug, the effect is often minimal, and if aggressive drugs are used, side effects such as uneven skin texture can occur.

Once a drug is injected into the body, it spreads around the surrounding area.

It is impossible to know where and how deeply the drug will spread, and unwanted areas may collapse or develop pitted depressions in spots, so caution is needed.

Whatever the procedure, the desired result can only be achieved when the proper amount of fat is removed from the right place through accurate design.

Trying to perform contouring with fat-dissolving injections is a method with very little realistic expectation.

Do not be misled by false and exaggerated advertising whose effectiveness has not been proven.

○ Removal of the fat pad through an intraoral incision

This method removes the fat pad beneath the cheekbones in a lump through an incision inside the mouth.

Unlike subcutaneous fat, the fat pad is buried deep beneath the cheekbones, so it can only be removed through an intraoral incision.

However, the effect is only a slight localized reduction in volume beneath the cheekbones; it does not reduce the overall volume of an obese-looking face, so the effect is very local and limited.

General cheek and jawline fullness is caused by subcutaneous fat, so liposuction is effective. Removing the fat pad by incision is completely unsuitable for obese-looking faces with a lot of subcutaneous fat.

A correct understanding of cheek liposuction

The simplest and best way to remove body fat is to insert a cannula and suction it out directly.

Liposuction is completed only when an incision is made in the skin and a cannula is inserted to suction out the fat cells.

Whether it is mechanical, laser-based, or ultrasound-based, the fat must be expelled through the cannula,

so whichever method is used, the fat cells must be broken down and removed in the necessary amount to achieve the desired volume reduction.

In facial liposuction, the outcome is determined by the surgeon’s experience and know-how,

using a thin cannula of appropriate thickness,

how smoothly and effectively the suction is performed,

and whether the necessary amount is removed.

If there is a lot of subcutaneous fat in the cheeks, liposuction is the right choice.

The degree of subcutaneous fat can be assessed by pinching the cheek with your fingers and judging the thickness that can be grasped.
