What makes a double eyelid attractive

There is no fixed standard for what makes a double eyelid line attractive and beautiful, but let's look at the generally accepted criteria for an attractive double eyelid line.

A natural yet beautiful double eyelid can be considered an attractive double eyelid.

A double eyelid line that appears too large is not desirable. In general, when the line is very large, the impression often becomes awkward. From an aesthetic perspective, a large and distinct line can give an artificial and awkward impression. The most beautiful and ideal double eyelid line is one that is just slightly visible, about 1 to 2 mm, when the eyes are open.

It is good if the double eyelid line clearly extends to the inner corner of the eye.

In some cases, East Asian eyes have an epicanthal fold (medial canthal fold), and if surgery is performed without taking this into account, the inner line of the eye may disappear, creating a feeling of heaviness.

Whenever possible, it is good to make sure the line is visible all the way to the inner corner of the eye. If the line does not come out properly because of an epicanthal fold, epicanthoplasty should be performed; if there is no epicanthal fold, the design should be done carefully so that the line does not break off at the inner side.

Surgical marks should not be visible.

The biggest drawback of incision-based surgery is the scar issue. How much scarring remains depends on the surgeon's skill and the individual's physical tendencies. In particular, people with thick skin and thick orbicularis oculi muscles tend to develop more scars.

Once a scar forms, there is no way to remove it completely, but in cases of severe scarring, scar revision surgery can be performed to make it less noticeable. Therefore, during the initial surgery, it is important to minimize scarring through appropriate skin excision and precise suturing as much as possible.

The reasons eyelids may look puffy include thick skin or orbicularis oculi muscle, or a large amount of orbital fat or preseptal fat.

Whenever possible, it is good to address these issues during double eyelid surgery. The most common cause is a large amount of orbital fat. This can be removed during double eyelid surgery. Alternatively, if the orbicularis oculi muscle layer beneath the skin is thick, part of the muscle can be removed. The orbicularis oculi muscle below the incision line can be partially removed, while the muscle above the incision line is difficult to remove.

If there is an epicanthal fold, it is better to remove it.

If ptosis is present, it should be corrected at the same time.

Ptosis refers to a sleepy-looking eye in which the upper eyelid droops because the function of the levator palpebrae superioris, which lifts the eyelid, is weakened. If this is overlooked and surgery is performed, the double eyelid line may not look attractive. Before double eyelid surgery, the eyes should look large and refreshed for the double eyelids to also look beautiful. Swelling occurs when exudate generated by surgery accumulates within the tissue. The reason Quick Double Eyelid surgery causes almost no swelling is that through micro-incisions,

the swelling tissue, the orbicularis oculi muscle and fat tissue, are removed, and because the exudate created by the surgery is immediately drained through the micro-incisions,

there is no room for swelling to develop.

For example, a bruise without an open wound swells, whereas a cut wound hardly swells at all.

A bruise without an open wound swells because exudate is produced inside and cannot drain, so it accumulates.

How Quick Double Eyelid Surgery is performed

1. Design the desired double eyelid line.

The design is made according to the height and shape the patient wants, or the surgeon determines the most suitable line and designs it accurately while the patient is seated. The line height is usually designed between 5 and 8 mm from the eyelashes, and the direction of the design line changes depending on whether an outer fold or an inner fold is chosen.

2. Mark three spots for the incision locations with design ink.

The locations are lightly marked on the inner side, center, and outer side.

3. Under sedation, while asleep for about 5 minutes, local anesthetic is injected into the three marked areas.

The local anesthetic is administered in minimal amounts to prevent swelling as much as possible.

4. Make very small incisions of about 2 mm at the three marked points.

If the incision is made too large, a lot of scarring will remain, so the surgery is performed with minimal incisions to leave almost no scar.

5. Through the incision, first pull the orbicularis oculi muscle and remove it with scissors.

The orbicularis oculi muscle is the muscle layer covering the eyelid and interferes with the formation of a double eyelid, so it must be removed for the double eyelid line to avoid loosening. Along with removal of the orbicularis oculi muscle, the preseptal fat beneath the muscle layer is also removed.

6. If there is a large amount of orbital fat, pull it out through the outer incision to expose it.

Fat removal is mainly performed from the outer side.

7. Grasp the fat with hemostatic forceps and cut off the base of the protruding fat with a scalpel.

Excessive fat removal can cause a hollowed eyelid, so it is better to remove only as much as has protruded.

8. After fat excision, use electrocautery to stop bleeding so that there is no bleeding.

If hemostasis is not properly achieved, orbital bleeding may occur, leading to severe bruising and swelling, so careful hemostasis is important.

9. Through the three incision sites, use a very fine absorbable suture to connect the levator palpebrae superioris muscle and the skin to create the double eyelid line.

10. After burying the sutures and applying eye ointment, the surgery is finished.

Washing the face and applying makeup are possible starting the next day. Cold compresses are applied with the cool pack provided by the clinic for 3 days. If cold compresses are continued for more than 3 days, swelling may not go down further, so it is best to do them for exactly 3 days only.

Postoperative care after Quick Double Eyelid Surgery (partial incision method)

① Apply cold compresses with the cool pack provided by the clinic.

Do this for 2 hours a day for only 3 days. The 2 hours can be done continuously, or split into 20 to 30 minute sessions. It is usually convenient to do it before going to sleep.

② For follow-up, visit the clinic once the day after surgery to disinfect the surgical site and observe the progress.

③ Makeup and face washing are possible starting the next day.
