Hump Nose Rhinoplasty: Is an Artificial Implant Necessary?

If the nose, which plays an important role in determining a person’s image, has aesthetic or functional issues, improvement is attempted through a procedure or surgery. Therefore, careful selection of the implant is required. At present, safe artificial implants with various functions, such as silicone and Gore-Tex, are being used, and autologous tissue implants, which have fewer side effects such as inflammation and skin necrosis and can produce natural results, are also widely used.

A method using autologous tissue implants may be chosen by those who usually feel reluctant about inserting an artificial implant into the nose or who want a more natural rhinoplasty result. However, since the amount and thickness of cartilage, skin condition, and other factors differ from patient to patient, a thorough evaluation by a specialist must come first.

In addition, while satisfying aesthetic concerns through external changes to the nose, it should not be neglected to proceed with thorough consideration of functional aspects as well, so that patients do not suffer from nasal congestion, rhinitis, sinusitis, or similar issues after surgery.
