Wart Cryotherapy
Hello, this is Raon Dermatology Clinic in Wangsimni :)
If you are worried about warts on your hands, feet, or other areas, please read today’s post carefully. They may not cause major discomfort, but it is true that they do not look very nice. So today, we will look at two wart treatment methods by area. We’ve included detailed information on the appropriate treatment interval and the treatment process, so we hope it will be helpful :)

Wart Cryotherapy
What are warts?
Warts are a type of benign tumor that develops on the skin. They appear as raised bumps above the skin’s surface, and are usually a little darker than the surrounding skin. They are characterized by being hard and lumpy, similar to a lump.
They mainly occur on the hands and feet, but they can also appear on other areas. They are also highly contagious! In particular, transmission within families is quite common. Therefore, if you are considering treatment, be sure to check whether any other family members have developed warts as well.

Two treatment methods
The treatment method differs depending on the area!
First of all, for the most common areas, the hands and feet, cryotherapy is recommended. Then how should warts in areas other than the hands and feet be treated? In general, treatment is carried out by burning off the lesion using a CO2 laser.
We’ll look at the detailed process for each treatment later! Depending on the area where the wart appears and how it presents, the treatment method may vary slightly. Please keep this in mind! Since there are definitely cases where warts recur or cannot be removed with just one treatment, ongoing observation is necessary.

Case 01. Hands, feet → Cryotherapy
Case 02. Other areas → CO2 laser

Two treatment methods
- Cryotherapy
Let’s start by explaining cryotherapy step by step. Warts that develop on the hands and feet are removed using the cryotherapy device below. The principle is to spray liquid nitrogen onto the lesion to freeze and destroy the wart. Since liquid nitrogen has a boiling point of -196°C, it can rapidly freeze the lesion.
It can also be used to treat lesions such as corns. Of course, it is not common for treatment to be completed in just one session, so you should follow the specialist’s guidance carefully! Please note that if care after treatment is insufficient, it may recur.

Things to note during treatment
The three most important things to know about cryotherapy are as follows. First, regular treatment is needed at two-week intervals. Second, there is no fixed number of treatment sessions, and ongoing treatment is required until the lesion is completely removed. If the lesion is relatively small, it may be treated quickly; on the other hand, if it is large and there are many of them, multiple treatment sessions will naturally be needed.
Finally, after treatment, pain, swelling, and blisters may occur. This is a natural part of the recovery process after wart lesions are removed, so there is no need to worry too much :)

Things to note during treatment
- CO2 laser treatment
Warts in other areas are treated using a CO2 laser. A CO2 laser is a laser that uses carbon dioxide gas to burn and vaporize specific lesions. Therefore, wart treatment is also carried out by directly targeting the lesion with the CO2 laser to remove it.
After one treatment session, the area must be observed to see how it progresses. If it heals well without recurring, the treatment can be completed as is! If it recurs, treatment must be performed again. Meanwhile, a CO2 laser can also be used to remove age spots, milia, and moles. Therefore, when treating warts, it can also be a good idea to remove other lesions at the same time :)
