Needle Radiofrequency, Part 2
Hello, this is Raon Dermatology at Wangsimni Station!
The troubles that appear one by one on the skin may seem to calm down, only to quickly resurface and cause stress again. In particular, I believe many people are troubled by adult acne or recurring inflammation. So today, we have prepared the second part of Director Baek Jong-heon’s skin column from Raon Dermatology! This time, we will look at actual acne management using needle radiofrequency, which many people are curious about.

Needle Radiofrequency, Part 2
Causes of Acne
The process by which acne develops involves more complicated factors than you might think. Stress or sudden hormonal changes can stimulate the sebaceous glands and greatly increase sebum production, and dead skin cells that fail to shed in time can block the opening and hinder discharge. In addition, as bacteria multiply and inflammation worsens, or if the skin barrier is damaged by external environmental factors, the condition can deteriorate uncontrollably.
Although there are many external factors like these, the key reason breakouts keep recurring can ultimately be traced to the sebaceous glands themselves, which produce excessive sebum. The sebaceous glands are connected to hair follicles and secrete oil, and when the activity of these glands becomes too excessive, problems are likely to return no matter how much you clean the surface. That is why, to resolve recurring concerns, it is very important to think about how to manage the underlying issue :)
<Causes>
-
Excessive sebum secretion is the primary factor
-
Hormonal changes, stress
-
Blockage at the pore opening, proliferation of acne-causing bacteria
-
Other external environmental factors

Causes of Acne
Treatment Principle
When people hear about the principle behind needle radiofrequency, they often think that the needle directly targets and destroys the sebaceous glands. However, if you look inside our skin, sebaceous glands are widely distributed at various depths, from 0.3 mm to 1.5 mm. In reality, it is almost impossible to physically go after each of these countless tissues one by one and eliminate them all.
Therefore, the actual procedure works by gently warming the entire skin layer, including the sebaceous glands, and delivering energy evenly. Heat is used to regulate the function of abnormally activated tissue and improve the overall environment. Rather than focusing only on removing tissue, the key principle is to guide the skin so that it can regain stability on its own, which should make it much easier to understand.

Treatment Principle
How Does It Work in Detail?
Specifically, a multi-needle device equipped with several micro-needles is used. The biggest advantage of this method is that the needle depth can be precisely adjusted, making it possible to care for problem areas located in different layers all at once. Because energy can be delivered while moving across a relatively large area quickly, it becomes a very efficient option when managing breakouts spread across the entire face.
At this point, the number of energy deliveries, commonly called the “shot count,” is very important in bringing about sufficient change. Since energy must reach the entire skin without gaps, a fairly large number of shots is needed in one session. Usually, 600 shots or more are recommended, and in severe cases, as many as 1,000 shots may be carefully performed. The more thoroughly energy is delivered, the better the results you can expect!
<How is it performed?>
-
Uses a multi-needle device with micro-needles
-
Delivers radiofrequency with precisely controlled depth
-
Shot count and distribution are very important
-
Usually 600 shots or more, and up to 1,000 shots for severe cases

How Does It Work in Detail?
Treatment Effects
The changes brought by needle radiofrequency can be broadly divided into three stages. First, as the fine needles pass through the skin, they create physical stimulation, which opens pathways for old dead skin cells and sebum that were tightly blocking the pores to be discharged more smoothly. Through this process, known as the needling effect, you may feel that the congested surface of the skin is relieved.
Next, the radiofrequency heat delivered deep inside helps internal regeneration and reduces inflammation. In fact, some sebaceous glands are directly regulated, which can also reduce greasiness. Thanks to these combined actions, it is being used as a reliable treatment option for resolving stubborn breakouts that do not improve easily with ordinary care alone :)
<Effects>
-
Removes sebum and dead skin cells through the needling effect
-
Regeneration and anti-inflammatory effects from radiofrequency
-
Some sebaceous glands are directly destroyed, reducing secretion

Are There Any Downsides?
Of course, while this method has many advantages, there are also some drawbacks that should be checked in advance. One is that it may involve a sharper-than-expected stinging pain. Because the needles are inserted directly and heat is generated, it can be a little difficult to recommend as a first-choice option for people who are sensitive to pain. For this reason, rather than applying it broadly to the entire face, it is often performed with a focus on the areas with more severe problems.
In the end, what matters most is accurately understanding your current condition and establishing an appropriate plan accordingly. Since pain level, skin thickness, and the severity of inflammation all need to be considered, please be sure to discuss things 충분히 with experienced medical staff. I hope the information covered so far will be of some help to those exhausted by recurring skin concerns, and Raon will be with you until the day you regain healthy skin!
