How to Smooth Out a Double Chin
Hello, this is Raon Dermatology at Wangsimni Station!
You may be familiar with the experience of seeing the area under your chin look especially prominent in a single side-profile photo! Even with a slight smile or the slightest tilt of your head downward, the moment when the skin seems to fold beneath your chin can become increasingly bothersome when it happens repeatedly. If only your jawline looks noticeably heavier even though you have not gained weight, it may not simply be excess flesh but a combination of fat and skin laxity. Accurately identifying the cause is the first step toward choosing the right approach to care:)

How to Smooth Out a Double Chin
Why a Double Chin Develops
The causes of a double chin can be broadly divided into two categories. First, fat cells may accumulate excessively beneath the chin and in the lower face~ Unlike general body fat, accumulated fat cells tend not to decrease easily through exercise or dietary control alone. In addition, as collagen and elastin production decreases with age, the skin beneath the chin itself may become loose and sagging!
Because these two causes often progress simultaneously, it can be difficult to achieve satisfactory changes with just one approach. When fat is the cause, an approach that reduces the fat cells themselves is needed; when sagging is the cause, tightening the loose tissue should be performed as well! Therefore, the first step in managing a double chin is to determine which cause is more closely related to your individual condition.

Why a Double Chin Develops
V-Olet
If you want to reduce the fat cells accumulated beneath the chin themselves, V-Olet injections may be one option. V-Olet works by directly injecting deoxycholic acid (DCA) into the fat layer to destroy the fat-cell membranes! Rather than simply breaking down fat to reduce the size of the cells, it works by causing the cells themselves to die. The destroyed fat is then naturally eliminated from the body through metabolic processes.
This approach has the advantage of a lower risk of reaccumulation because it reduces the number of fat cells themselves. As the fat decreases, the jawline becomes more defined and a slimmer lower-face contour emerges! The process through which the ingredient works may also induce collagen production, which may help support skin elasticity in addition to reducing fat.

-
Eliminates dead fat cells through the body's metabolic processes
-
Reduces fat cells, defines the jawline, and helps support skin elasticity

Guide to the Recommended V-Olet Dosage
Dosage is an especially important consideration with V-Olet. The recommended dose per session for improving a double chin is approximately 4 cc. Injecting less than this may make the reduction in fat difficult to notice, while injecting too much may lengthen the recovery period for swelling. Maintaining an appropriate dosage is key to both the results and the speed of recovery!
The injection is administered in small amounts across multiple points after first assessing the distribution of fat beneath the chin. Dividing the injections densely across the area, rather than pushing the entire amount into a broad area at once, allows the treatment to act more evenly throughout the fat layer! It is generally repeated at four-week intervals, with the number of treatments adjusted according to the amount of fat and the individual's recovery rate. However, swelling may persist for more than one week after the injection, so it is advisable to plan ahead to avoid overlapping with important events.

Ultherapy
If loose skin is a greater concern than fat, Ultherapy may help. Ultherapy works by delivering high-intensity focused ultrasound, or HIFU, energy to the SMAS fascia layer without damaging the epidermis. The fascia layer is a supportive structure that holds up the skin from beneath. When thermal stimulation is delivered to this area, the loose tissue contracts!
Along with the tightening effect that appears after lifting treatment, new collagen is synthesized over time, and elasticity may gradually become stronger. Because it can naturally lift a sagging jawline and cheek area without incisions or significant pain, it is a suitable option for people whose double-chin concern is primarily related to skin laxity. Since tips with different depths are used for different areas, adjustments can also be made according to the condition of the face:)
<Ultherapy>
-
Creates thermal coagulation points in the SMAS fascia layer
-
Contracts loose tissue with ultrasound energy
-
Promotes collagen regeneration and provides natural-looking lifting

Ultherapy
V-Olet X Ultherapy
If a double chin involves both fat and sagging, you may consider combining V-Olet and Ultherapy in stages. First, V-Olet reduces the fat cells accumulated beneath the chin to reduce the volume itself. Ultherapy is then used to tighten the fascia layer and help hold the remaining skin in place so that it does not become loose. If only the fat-reduction process is performed, the skin may instead appear more sagging; managing the fascia layer at the same time can help reduce this concern:)
In this way, addressing fat reduction and elasticity improvement together can make the overall lower-face contour look smoother and more refined. Accurately determining whether your jawline is more affected by fat or sagging, and then planning the appropriate sequence and method, is a sensible way to address a double-chin concern.
<V-Olet & Ultherapy>
-
Step 1: Reduce volume by reducing fat cells with V-Olet
-
Step 2: Tighten the fascia layer with Ultherapy to help hold the skin in place and prevent sagging
-
Ultherapy is recommended at the completion stage after 2–4 sessions of V-Olet
