Do I really need to get scaling??
Hello, I’m Dr. Jeon Jin-mo, director of Leaders Jin Dental Clinic.
This is something many patients often say when they visit the dentist:
“Do I really need scaling even if my teeth don’t hurt?”
More people than you might think are unsure why they should get scaling
or how important it really is.
So today, I’d like to explain
why scaling is necessary.

Many people think that if they brush their teeth diligently,
scaling is not necessary.
Of course, proper toothbrushing
is very important for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
However, brushing alone has its limitations.
I’ll explain why from here.
Tartar cannot be removed by brushing.

Brushing plays an important role in removing
food debris and bacteria from the surface of the teeth.
However, brushing alone cannot take care of everything.
In particular, tartar that hardens firmly
on the surface of the teeth over time
cannot be removed with a toothbrush alone.
Once tartar has formed, if it is not removed,
it will continue to build up around the gums over time.
Why is tartar a problem??

Tartar is not simply something that sticks to the teeth.
When tartar builds up around the gums,
it can cause inflammation and swelling,
or make the gums bleed while brushing.
These may be signs
that there is a problem with your gum health.
In particular, if tartar is left untreated for a long time,
it can progress to periodontal disease,
causing the gums to recede and expose the tooth roots
or resulting in tooth sensitivity.
In severe cases, the bone supporting the teeth
may become weakened.
Therefore, tartar must be removed to maintain healthy gums.
That is why scaling is necessary.

Scaling is a basic dental treatment that removes tartar
built up on the surface of the teeth and around the gums.
It can help reduce the causes of gum inflammation,
prevent periodontal disease,
and maintain healthy teeth and gums.
To keep your teeth healthy for a long time,
prevention is more important than treatment.
Take care of your teeth and gums with
regular checkups and scaling.
At Leaders Jin Dental Clinic,
we provide accurate examinations using digital equipment
and comfortable scaling with mouth-rinse anesthesia.
