Especially in Southeast Asia, highly venomous jellyfish such as box jellyfish can appear, so prevention and early response are key.

2️⃣ First aid you can do on-site after a jellyfish sting

✅ Do this!

✔ Gently lift off and remove any tentacles using tweezers or a twig

✔ Do not use your bare hands; rinse and remove them with seawater

✔ If you have vinegar, spray enough of it to deactivate the nematocysts (stinging cells)

✔ If possible, soak the area in hot water (43–45°C) for 20 minutes

✔ If the pain is severe, take a pain reliever; for itching, take an antihistamine

🚫 Do not do this!

❌ Wash with fresh water (it can trigger more nematocyst discharge)

❌ Apply urine, alcohol, lemon juice, or meat tenderizer (they only increase irritation)

❌ Rub, scrub, or use sand to rub the area

❌ Use an ice pack or compression bandage (they may actually worsen symptoms)

You may be very startled the moment a jellyfish stings you,

but if you remember only the methods above, you can get through it without major side effects.

3️⃣ Recovery care you can do at home after returning

📌 In the early stage, keep the wound "moist"

✔ Wash gently with lukewarm water once or twice a day; never rub it

✔ Even if a scab forms, do not force it off—wait for it to fall off naturally

✔ Apply antibiotic ointment and soothing ointment

✔ Use steroid ointment only for the prescribed period

✔ If pain or itching persists, take an antihistamine

📌 What matters during the regeneration stage

✔ Be strict about sun protection (use SPF 50+ sunscreen)

✔ Cover the affected area when outdoors

✔ Apply moisturizer consistently

✔ Do not exfoliate or scrub the area

✔ Silicone gel and scar ointment may be used together to help prevent pigmentation
