Hello,
this is VN Plastic Surgery.
The eyes are a feature that determines a person’s overall impression,
so many people come to us seeking double eyelid surgery for improvement.
As double eyelid surgery has become more common,
interest in canthoplasty procedures has also been increasing these days.
However, even after double eyelid surgery,
there are still people who worry because their eyes remain small
or seem tight and congested.
For those with eyes that are narrow and look congested,
which are difficult to improve with double eyelid surgery alone,
we will explain canthoplasty,
a procedure that helps make the eyes appear larger.

What are narrow, constricted eyes?
This is a term that came about because eyes that are round and small
resemble a type of shellfish called kkomaek,
and it refers to eyes that are relatively small compared to the proportions of the face,
or that look tight or narrow.
It means that there is little exposure at the inner and outer corners of the eyes,
so both the horizontal and vertical lengths of the eyes are short.

If you have eyes that fit this narrow, constricted shape,
the key is to enlarge the eyes,
so this can be approached in two main ways.
Through double eyelid surgery,
the vertical length of the eyes can be increased
so that the eyes look larger and more defined,
and through canthoplasty,
the horizontal and vertical lengths of the eyes can be increased,
opening up the inner and outer parts of the eyes
so that the eyes appear longer
and the sense of tightness can be improved.

Canthoplasty, which helps improve narrow, constricted eyes,
can be broadly classified into four types depending on the direction.
Inner canthoplasty, which opens the drooping or covered inner corner of the eye
Upper canthoplasty, which lifts the inner part of the eye upward by 45 degrees
Outer canthoplasty, which expands the outer corner of the eye
to create a more open horizontal length
Lower canthoplasty, which lowers the outer corner of the eye
to increase the vertical length
Through a variety of canthoplasty methods,
narrow, constricted eyes can be improved according to different eye shapes and proportions.

In what cases is canthoplasty performed?
For those who want long, open-looking eyes
For those whose eyes look congested because the horizontal length is short
For those whose eyes look small because of the epicanthic fold at the inner corner
For those who had double eyelid surgery but are not satisfied with the size
These would be the cases, I think.
By opening the epicanthic fold through inner canthoplasty,
the front part of the double eyelid can be exposed,
creating the effect of a wider field of vision,
and by increasing the vertical length with upper canthoplasty,
while at the same time forming a soft curve,
you can achieve a natural yet defined impression.
Outer canthoplasty, like inner canthoplasty,
widens the left-to-right width of the eyes,
so the eyes can be made larger and more open,
and lower canthoplasty can soften a sharp eye shape
with an upturned outer corner
into a gentler look so the face appears kinder.
