For this patient,

if orthodontic treatment were done without extraction,

the teeth could have protruded even further forward,

so extraction orthodontics was necessary.

The front teeth, canines, and molars were preserved,

and the smaller premolars, which are relatively less important,

were extracted to complete the orthodontic treatment.^^

Finally, a retainer was placed

to prevent the teeth from shifting.
