Today,

I’d like to introduce a transfer case of a patient who started orthodontic treatment in Indonesia

and continued treatment at our clinic.

For transfer case patients,

in order to prevent any gap in treatment,

Before orthodontic treatment

When the patient first visited our clinic,

the teeth were tilted outward,

and the protrusion was severe.

Two upper premolars and one lower premolar were missing, for a total of three missing small molars,

so one lower premolar had to be extracted for balance.

Dr. Kim, who pursues perfection,

removed the existing orthodontic appliance

and started again with new appliances for ideal orthodontic treatment.

Also, to improve the protruding teeth,

we used mini-screws

to help move the teeth effectively.

Mini-screws are

one of the non-surgical orthodontic methods; they are not very painful,

allow tooth movement to proceed smoothly,

shorten treatment time,

and can improve protrusion as much as desired.

Cavities that appear black on X-rays

are often already quite advanced when the decay is actually removed.

Because the range of decay was very close to the nerve,

there were several teeth that needed root canal treatment,

but as much as possible, we proceeded with a conservative approach,

considering simultaneous orthodontic treatment and cavity treatment,

and focused on resin treatment for all but one tooth that unavoidably required root canal treatment.

If you look at the after photos of extraction orthodontic treatment at UPenn Bareun Dental Clinic,

the front teeth, which had been severely protruded and sticking outward, found their proper position,

creating harmony between the upper and lower teeth.

As the angle of the front teeth that had been pushed forward improved,

the functional aspects of the teeth also improved significantly.

Also,

because of the protruding mouth,

the patient had difficulty naturally closing the lips

and unconsciously kept the mouth open,

showing lip incompetence and mentalis strain.

In such cases, to close the lips,

over-tension occurs in the chin muscle,

weakening the lip muscles,

and if left untreated for a long time,

multiple oral and extraoral problems can arise,

such as speech and oral health issues.

Protruded teeth

cause uneven force on the teeth,

which can lead to reduced chewing function, temporomandibular joint disorders, and speech problems.

After orthodontic treatment,

not only was there an aesthetic improvement,

but chewing function and speech also improved,

and unlike before treatment when the lips could not close,

the patient could comfortably close the mouth, improving the oral environment as well.
