Unsightly discoloration of the front teeth: restoring aesthetics with a zirconia crown at Sindaebang Dental Clinic

Hello.

I am Director Park Jung-gi of Sindaebang Dental Clinic.

All teeth in the oral cavity cannot last forever,

so after a certain amount of time,

problems can arise.

1. First visit - The tooth color has changed.

There is discoloration on the upper central incisor, or the second tooth of the upper front teeth, called #12.

You may think, “Isn’t this still okay?”

but the anterior teeth are the area that handles the aesthetic aspect of our mouth,

and since they are inevitably the first place people look when we smile or talk,

once discoloration or staining becomes noticeable,

it is hard not to keep worrying about it.

And even if resin is polished as smoothly as possible at the boundary between the tooth and the material,

discoloration or staining can easily occur depending on the food we eat and the oral environment.

In this patient’s case, there is also some secondary decay slightly below.

2. Method - How is it treated?

At Sindaebang Dental Clinic, there are three main ways to treat the anterior teeth.

1️⃣ Resin

2️⃣ Crown

3️⃣ Laminate veneer

The method varies depending on the condition of the remaining tooth structure,

the extent of decay or restorative material,

and the individual’s preference.

At Remember, covering #12 with a zirconia crown would be the best option.

3. Procedure

There are a few points I would like to mention before starting.

When the existing material is removed, depending on the extent and depth of the decay that has developed inside,

a certain amount of natural tooth structure must also be removed, so whether the remaining tooth will need root canal treatment may vary accordingly,

and if additional root canal treatment or a core buildup is performed, there will be separate charges.

Also, at Sindaebang Dental Clinic, for anterior teeth, a temporary tooth is made,

and a decision needs to be made about whether to fabricate it in advance or make it on the same day.

After deciding to make it in advance, a scan of the front teeth is taken with an intraoral scanner,

and two days before the visit date, the in-house dental lab finishes designing the temporary tooth, checks the upper and lower occlusion, and then transfers the data to a 3D printer for output.

4. Zirconia crown

Fortunately, when the decay area was removed in this patient, the depth was not very deep, so prep was performed immediately and impressions were taken.

However, because this is the anterior region, shade matching was done in detail with a shade guide in order to improve aesthetics.

This is the final completed prosthesis.

As in the case I explained today, there are various approaches available for front tooth treatment.

That is why it is best to work with a clinic that has expertise in aesthetic prosthetics and carries out even the smallest details with care.
