Hello,
I’m Park Jeong-gi,
a dentist at Shindae-dong Dental Clinic.
When treating patients,
I often encounter cases where
multiple complex problems have developed inside the mouth.
After receiving treatment once,
there is often a thought that everything should be fine now.
Because the tooth is covered by a sturdy restoration,
you cannot know what is happening inside.
The more so in situations like that,
you need to receive thorough checkups
and keep managing things consistently,
but if that does not happen,
at some point simple cavity treatment or
scaling alone is not enough,
and a more complex and precise treatment plan
becomes necessary.
- Intraoral photos
First, looking inside the mouth,
there are multiple problems in the lower right posterior area.
*To help with understanding,
I will explain it using
three colors.

Looking in order,
first, teeth 43 and 44 are
covered with old prosthetics,
but food often gets trapped,
causing the surrounding gums to swell,
and behind them, from teeth 45 to 47,
the old bridge has worn down,
exposing the internal metal.
In addition, a wisdom tooth is located at the very back,
and although it is hard to see because it is the furthest area in the mouth,
you can confirm that there is decay on the chewing surface.
If there are old restorations inside the mouth or a wisdom tooth with decay,
an odor may develop,
or the surrounding gums may swell frequently,
causing discomfort,
and at some point brushing alone will no longer solve the problem,
with severe pain and even bleeding.
- Panoramic X-ray
In addition to the issues visible to the naked eye,
we need to take a panoramic X-ray
to understand the condition inside the alveolar bone,
which cannot be seen directly.
If you go for a checkup
and can take a full-mouth X-ray like this,
I strongly recommend that you do so.
This is because a panoramic X-ray reveals not only the height of the alveolar bone,
but also many other details,
such as the condition of the surrounding tissues that support the tooth roots
and the condition of the natural teeth inside the restoration.
- Treatment plan

2024.06.18
(1) Wisdom tooth extraction
: Remove the unnecessary wisdom tooth with decay
(2) 45=47
: Tooth 45, which developed secondary caries under the bridge,
after extraction of tooth 47, which had a fractured root,
make a new implant bridge
(3) Replacement of restorations on teeth 43 and 44
: Replace the old crowns with new ones
Through this process,
we can reduce gum inflammation and relieve the discomfort of food getting trapped,
and with more natural and attractive crowns,
we can achieve better aesthetics.
In addition, because the abutment teeth that serve as supports
had secondary caries and fractures,
we replaced the molars, which had been receiving almost no chewing force,
with implants,
so we expect them to function more robustly.
- Treatment results

2024.10.27
At Shindae-dong Dental Clinic,
I will explain while looking at the photos.
Following the specifically planned treatment steps,
we progressed stage by stage and regained oral health.

2024.10.27
Unlike before, food getting trapped under the crown
and the gums swelling
have been significantly reduced,
and now it is best to actively use dental floss and interdental brushes
to keep the surrounding area clean.
Also, if you receive scaling at the recommended intervals,
you will be able to use them for a long time.
Dental treatment is not simply about solving a problem;
it is an investment in long-term oral health.
Please remember that the 5 minutes of checkup you invest now
can return even greater benefits,
and further improve your quality of life.
Thank you for reading.
