Today, I would like to explain the risks of leaving problems in the front teeth untreated and the importance of prompt treatment.

The teeth we use every day cannot recover on their own once they are damaged.

That is why it is most important to detect and treat them early.

Examination and Diagnosis

After examining the mouth,

the upper right second lateral incisor was fractured, and the adjacent canine had severe decay.

In particular, the decay in the canine had extended to the root of the tooth, so severe pain was expected to occur soon.

In addition, the first premolar had previously undergone implant treatment, but the crown prosthesis on top had come off.

Reasons Why a Broken or Cavitated Tooth Should Not Be Left Untreated

1. In the early stages, symptoms may be mild, but as time passes, the decay progresses deeper and can reach the nerve.

When this happens, you may suffer severe pain.

2. Once a tooth is damaged, it becomes a pathway through which bacteria can easily enter.

As a result, the infection can spread inward and cause inflammation in the surrounding tissues,

and in severe cases, it can erode the jawbone and even form an abscess (pus).

3. If a damaged tooth cannot function properly, other teeth take over its role and are placed under excessive strain.

This leads to overall oral problems.

Why Front Tooth Problems Need Immediate Treatment

The anterior teeth have a direct impact on our smile and appearance, and damaged front teeth can lead to reduced confidence and social discomfort.

They also play an important role in producing certain sounds, and if a tooth is missing or unstable, it may be difficult to pronounce words accurately.

The anterior teeth are essential for biting off pieces of food and cutting food, and when they cannot perform these functions, those tasks become difficult.

Treatment Process and Results

The case explained today at Seoul Nat'l Univ. Entrance Station Dental Clinic involved a damaged lateral incisor and canine, for which extraction followed by implants was needed.

The lateral incisor was too severely fractured, making it difficult to place a crown.

The canine had deep decay that had progressed to the root, so root canal treatment alone would not have offered a good long-term prognosis.

In addition, for the first premolar, it was best to fabricate a new crown prosthesis on the existing implant to restore its appearance.

As a result, all three anterior teeth had their function and appearance successfully restored,

and the patient likely recovered normal chewing function without any more pain.

Also, by fabricating only a new implant prosthesis, we could minimize the cost and maintain esthetics with a customized crown that fits the patient.

What I Would Like to Say

once our teeth are chipped, broken, or develop decay, they do not naturally recover.

That is why it is important to detect even small problems early and seek treatment quickly.
