Sadang Dental Clinic Seoul Remember
I am Director Park Jeong-gi.
Many people
pay attention to gaps between the upper teeth,
but are relatively unconcerned about
space between the lower teeth.
However, once you become aware of it,
it can be a bigger source of stress than expected—
that is the issue with the lower front teeth.
Today, at Sadang Dental Clinic,
we will look at a related case
and explain how it should be treated.
What is diastema?
Diastema (Diastema)
is a dental term that refers to
a space or gap between teeth.
It usually occurs between the front teeth near the midline,
and can be caused by various factors,
such as genetic factors, periodontal disease, habitual tongue pressure,
and a mismatch in the size of the teeth and jaws.
Features of mandibular diastema
Usually, diastema
appears more often in the maxilla,
but it can also occur in the mandible.
The lower teeth are normally covered by the upper teeth,
and since they are often not very visible,
people may not pay much attention to them.
But once they start to stand out,
then every time you look in the mirror,
your eyes will be drawn to them without you realizing it.
In fact, at Sadang Dental Clinic as well,
there are many patients who come in urgently
because of front-tooth problems discovered suddenly.
Case and treatment process

The case presented today at Sadang Dental Clinic
also involved a gap between the two lower front teeth,
which made the inside of the mouth appear dark.
The dark space visible when smiling or speaking
was bothersome,
and I believe the patient decided to proceed with treatment
for a more confident smile.
From the perspective of Sadang Dental Clinic,
this case seemed sufficient
to close the space between the two front teeth
using resin.
We worked to naturally recreate
the fan-shaped tooth form.

In addition, rather than simply filling the space,
we selected a shade that would blend harmoniously
with the surrounding teeth,
because we believed it was important to make it as
'invisible' as possible.
So today, at Sadang Dental Clinic,
I will explain one tool that is often used
when doing anterior resin work.
Celluloid Strip

A thin, transparent plastic strip used
to form the proximal surface during composite resin filling.
This tool plays a key role in
preventing the material from sticking to adjacent teeth
and in naturally shaping the tooth.

The strip is manufactured to be extremely thin,
at about 0.05 mm thick,
so when inserted between the teeth
it does not cause major interference
while still serving as a barrier.
Also, because it is made of a transparent material,
it does not block light transmission during light curing,
which helps the resin harden.
After filling the gap like this, the final step is
to check whether floss can pass through easily,
so that the patient can manage oral hygiene on their own as well.
No matter how good the treatment is,
it is meaningless if follow-up care is not done properly.

The diastema resin treatment explained today
at Sadang Dental Clinic
is a procedure with very high satisfaction,
because changes can be confirmed immediately after the procedure.
Also, compared with prosthetics or orthodontics,
it does not cost much,
does not take a long time,
and does not require removal of natural teeth,
so it has many advantages.
However, that does not mean
that everything can be treated with resin.
Only cases within a size that can withstand
the adhesive strength of the material are possible,
so an accurate diagnosis by a specialist is necessary.
Anterior diastema can cause significant stress in daily life,
but
it can be improved right away on the same day
through resin treatment,
and natural-looking results can also be achieved.
However, what is most important at this time is
that accurate diagnosis and delicate technique
matched to the individual's oral condition are absolutely necessary,
so if you are concerned about a related issue,
please receive treatment at a place with extensive experience in cases like this.
Thank you for reading.
