Hello,
I’m Director Park Jeong-gi of Seoul Remember Dental Clinic in Sillim.
Just as black spots can appear on our skin,
have you ever noticed white spots on the front teeth?
Of course, these are not the kind of spots we usually mean,
and it doesn’t seem to be tooth decay either, so what is it?
When part of the tooth surface appears white,
it is called a white spot,
and it is also referred to as a mottled tooth.
It commonly appears when oral hygiene has not been maintained well,
as the tooth surface begins to demineralize,
and because of that, it can also occur around brackets
after orthodontic treatment.
White spots are a phenomenon that occurs when the enamel becomes partially weakened
and minerals are lost.
Among patients who come to Sillim Dental Clinic,
some say, “There’s something on my front tooth, but it won’t come off,”
and visit us for treatment.
However, this is not simply a change on the outer surface of the tooth
or something that has accumulated on it;
it is a change in the tooth structure itself,
so it cannot be removed by brushing.
Does that mean it can’t be treated?
No.
The area with the mottled tooth can be shaved down and filled with resin,
or if the affected area is large, it can be restored with a laminate veneer
or esthetic prosthetic restoration.
Today, at Sillim Dental Clinic,
I’ll look at a related case
and explain it in a bit more depth.
You can see the mottled tooth on the front teeth, right?

When taking photos or talking at close range,
your eyes may naturally go to that area,
which can reduce your confidence,
and because it is so noticeable,
you may even develop the habit of covering your mouth with your hand.
So at Sillim Dental Clinic,
we considered whether to resolve this problem with a veneer or with resin.
Of course, restoring it inconspicuously with Seoul Remember’s Realnate
is also a good method,
but in this case, we proceeded with same-day restoration using composite resin.
Since the patient’s teeth were fairly well aligned
and the spaces between the teeth were tightly closed,
we preserved those advantages as they were
by gently removing only the white spot
and filling it with resin.
Resin has the advantage of offering a variety of shades,
so we can choose a color that blends with the patient’s natural teeth,
and because details can be applied depending on the area,
it is highly versatile for the front teeth.

Let’s look at the result after completing white spot treatment at Sillim Dental Clinic.
Since only part of the enamel was trimmed and restored,
there is no pain other than a little vibration,
so even patients who are afraid of dental treatment can receive it comfortably.
The procedure time is also short,
so it can be completed within 30 minutes,
and above all, it has the advantage of being finished in a single visit.
If needed, preventive measures such as fluoride application
can also be provided to further help surface remineralization.
The white spot resin treatment explained today at Sillim Dental Clinic
may be less suitable than veneers or prosthetics
depending on the extent, area, and depth.
So before starting treatment,
be sure to receive an accurate diagnosis from the attending specialist,
and if it is mild enough to be simply restored,
I hope you can let go of the stress through treatment.
Thank you for reading.
