Hello,
I’m Director Park Jeong-gi of Seoul Remember at Boramae Dental Clinic.
A tooth that has undergone root canal treatment
has its pulp, which supplies blood and nutrients, removed,
so over time the tooth becomes weaker
and more brittle.
That is why it needs to be protected
by covering it with a strong restoration called a crown,
but even this can develop problems over time
if oral hygiene is not well maintained
or a long time has passed since treatment.
What kind of problems can occur?
At Boramae Dental Clinic,
I will explain the limitations that can appear
even after a crown has been placed following root canal treatment.
Since the tooth has already lost its vitality,
it can break under strong external force
or repeated chewing pressure.
In addition, as secondary decay progresses
between the crown and the natural tooth serving as the abutment,
the likelihood of fracture may have increased.

The case we are showing today at Boramae Dental Clinic
can be seen on the panoramic X-ray,
where white material is filled inside,
indicating that the lower left first premolar,
which had previously undergone root canal treatment,
has developed a problem,
and upon closer inspection, the crown,
the visible part of the tooth,
has fractured.

Looking inside the mouth,
the crown has broken off completely,
so unfortunately there is no longer a way to save and use it.
Can it be extracted and replaced with an implant?
Yes, it can.
In such cases, Boramae Dental Clinic
recommends immediate implant placement after extraction.
Since the problematic tooth is only number 34,
there is no need to interfere with the surrounding area,
and the issue can be resolved with a single implant.
However, in this case, from the patient’s initial panoramic image,
the area around the broken tooth root looked very good
and there was no inflammation,
so immediate placement seemed possible.
What is immediate implant placement?
As the name suggests, it means placing the implant
on the very same day the tooth is extracted.
Because it can be performed relatively simply and safely
without additional procedures such as bone grafting,
it is also classified as a simple case.
When the bone quality is good
and the area is healthy,
the tooth can be removed and a fixture placed immediately,
which shortens the treatment period.
Also, since the patient would need to receive an anesthetic injection anyway
for the extraction,
if the implant is placed while the area is still anesthetized,
the number of injections can be reduced
and the number of visits can also be lowered,
so there are many advantages.
That is why, at Boramae Dental Clinic,
we actively perform this procedure in cases where
immediate implant placement is possible.
What was the result?!

Looking at the condition after all treatment was completed,
unlike the broken tooth at the beginning,
the crown has been restored,
and the tooth structure has been recovered,

while the broken root was extracted
and an implant was placed
so that it could serve as an artificial root.
Since it was placed on the same day the tooth was extracted,
the total treatment period was only about three months,
so the patient would likely have been very satisfied.

Today at Boramae Dental Clinic,
I wanted to say that when a tooth breaks,
if you do not leave it untreated and come in quickly,
you will have more options for how to address it,
and that means a higher chance of success
and many other additional benefits.
If this patient had delayed treatment
and come much later,
it might not have been treated this well.
So the most important thing is to visit quickly when a problem occurs,
and Boramae Dental Clinic promises honest treatment
that repays your valuable visit.
I hope today’s explanation was helpful
as you choose the hospital that will be your regular clinic going forward,
and I’ll end the post here.
Thank you for reading.
