Hello,
This is Director Park Jung-gi of Seoul Remember Dental Clinic in Sillim.
A new year has begun.
The weather has been very cold since the start of the year,
so I hope everyone stays healthy and takes good care of themselves.
Today, I’d like to share
various information about front tooth fractures.
- Causes of front tooth fractures
Among the structures of our maxillofacial area,
which part protrudes the most?
The first is the nose.
And next are
the lips and teeth.
Among them, the maxillary anterior teeth
are positioned farther forward, so
the risk of injury is naturally higher.
Falls and impacts
are the most common causes of trauma,
and sometimes front teeth can also break
when you play active sports
or when you have harmful habits such as biting chopsticks or your fingernails.
- Chipped edge of tooth 11

The case shown today at Sillim Dental Clinic
also involves a broken maxillary right central incisor (tooth 11).
When a tooth breaks like this,
we need to look at where the broken area is.
Is it the contact surface between teeth,
the labial tooth surface,
or the incisal edge, and so on?
The treatment method may change
depending on where the break occurred.
In this case, the incisal edge (the tip of the tooth),
which is used to cut food like noodles,
was fractured.
- Checking the extent of the fracture
At Sillim Dental Clinic,
once we confirm the broken area,
we look a little more closely at how much has broken.
If it is only a very small chip,
we may simply smooth it a little
and not provide treatment.^^

However, in this case,
the length of the incisal edge changed,
and the difference was clearly visible,
so it would be difficult to correct it just by smoothing.
Instead, we can restore it using light-cured composite resin.
- Same-day resin treatment
At Sillim Dental Clinic,
the material most commonly used for anterior tooth treatment
is light-cured composite resin.
This method uses a material called resin,
which has a hard strength similar to natural teeth,
to fill areas where the tooth has broken or where decay has occurred.
There are flowable types
and non-flowable types (packable),
which makes it convenient for the clinician to use depending on the situation.
There are also many different shades,
so we can match the color to a shade
similar to the patient's current tooth color.
Also, since it is hardened using a curing light,
the chair time is less than 30 minutes,
making same-day treatment possible.

Looking at the result after same-day resin treatment at Sillim Dental Clinic,
it was restored well to match the length of the opposite, symmetrical front tooth,
and
we also checked whether it would be uncomfortable due to contact with the lower teeth
or whether close contact might increase the possibility of the material falling out.
After that,
we finished by gently smoothing it.
A chipped front tooth
can happen to anyone, regardless of age or gender,
and because it directly affects aesthetics,
people want it resolved quickly when a fracture occurs.
That is why we also try to provide all treatment on the same day whenever possible.
However, since this involves an anterior tooth,
we must fully restore aesthetics while meeting the patient's needs and requests.
For that reason,
please receive treatment from a doctor who has a lot of experience with this kind of case
or who has good manual skills.
That way, you will be able to get a more satisfying result.
Thank you for reading.
Happy New Year.
