Hello,
I’m Director Park Jeong-gi of Seoul Remember, Sadang Dental Clinic.
Have you ever imagined breaking a front tooth?
Of course, it should never happen, but since front teeth are the most protruded teeth in our mouths, they are especially vulnerable to trauma.
In particular, young children may bump into something while playing energetically and end up breaking a tooth,
and older adults may chip or break a tooth due to accidents such as falls in winter.
That is why, at Sadang Dental Clinic, we believe anterior tooth fractures are an issue that can happen to anyone, regardless of age or gender.
- Initial visit

The case I’m showing today is also a broken tooth: the upper right first incisor, the central incisor (tooth 11).
However, looking at the extent of the fracture, about half of the crown was missing.
At this level, the tooth is broken to the point that it includes the pulp inside the natural tooth, so root canal treatment is definitely necessary.
- Why root canal treatment is needed
At Sadang Dental Clinic, even if a tooth fracture occurs, if it is limited to the enamel or can be simply restored, we perform same-day filling treatment to help recover the tooth.
However, if the tooth is broken on such a large scale, bacteria can infect the inner pulp while the tooth remains fractured, which may cause severe pain.
Also, even if it does not hurt right away, the pulp can gradually die and cause inflammation at the root tip, so we proceed with treatment when needed.
- Treatment process
When a front tooth is broken like this, it is very noticeable, so we usually use a material called resin to temporarily restore the appearance, and later replace it with a crown,
or make a temporary tooth to restore the shape and protect the remaining tooth.
That way, the patient can continue daily life while the root canal treatment is being completed.
Also, because front teeth are naturally single-rooted teeth, treatment can be completed quickly, but the period may vary depending on the type of trauma or the presence of a periapical lesion.

In today’s case at Sadang Dental Clinic, the tooth was simply fractured, and there were no signs of a fistula or inflammation, so we were able to place the crown quickly.
- Considerations when making an aesthetic front-tooth restoration
When making anterior restorations, Sadang Dental Clinic always talks directly with the patient while looking in a mirror together to discuss color and design.
That way, when we make the final restoration, we can reflect all of those opinions.
Also, in this case, the opposing lower teeth were slightly protruded forward, and there was also crowding (crooked alignment), so

when the lower teeth directly hit the upper teeth like this and the dentition is not aligned neatly, the restoration must be made while also considering the occlusal relationship.
Patients may naturally not know much about the relationship between tooth alignment and aesthetic restorations,
so at Sadang Dental Clinic, we take this into account and make decisions after 충분한 conversation.

Looking at the final restored front tooth, we carefully adjusted the length of the incisal edge so that the lower teeth would not continue to contact it and cause irritation,
and we also carefully adjusted the occlusion so that no single area would be biting too tightly.
Otherwise, there would be a risk of fracture, so the more crowded the dentition, the more meticulous the occlusal adjustment must be.
The front-tooth fracture I explained today at Sadang Dental Clinic can occur for many reasons,
but if the situation requires a crown, I recommend receiving treatment at a place that provides delicate care while considering aesthetics, occlusion, and tooth alignment together for better long-term prognosis.
That concludes today’s post.
Thank you for reading.
