Hello, this is Dr. Park Jeong-gi from Seoul Remember Dental Clinic in Bongcheon-dong.
As people age, some notice various oral changes, such as their front teeth appearing crowded or their dental alignment becoming distorted.
Especially after middle age, the condition of the teeth and gums gradually changes, and the mouth may begin to show patterns that differ from the past.
Even dental alignment that did not present any problems when a person was younger may shift or become worn over time, affecting both aesthetics and function.
For this reason, our Bongcheon-dong dental clinic continues to receive consultations on anterior aesthetic treatment from people of various age groups.
In particular, when the way the front teeth meet changes after middle age, discomfort may be felt not only when chewing food but also when speaking or smiling.
Therefore, it is important to follow a process that considers the entire oral environment, including occlusion and gum condition, rather than looking only at the alignment of the teeth.
1. Front Tooth Fracture and Discoloration Caused by Edge-to-Edge and Anterior Crossbite

In this case, an anterior edge-to-edge bite and some features of an anterior crossbite were observed.
Normally, the upper teeth cover approximately one-third of the lower teeth. However, because the front teeth were striking each other in an abnormal direction, part of the incisal edge was found to be fractured.
This may have been influenced by traumatic occlusion that had repeatedly occurred over a long period.
In particular, while eating or speaking, the front teeth may have unexpectedly struck each other with considerable force, likely causing the patient to be startled from time to time.
Because this can cause not only functional problems but also aesthetic changes, our Bongcheon-dong dental clinic recommends receiving an examination if the discomfort continues to recur.

Tooth No. 21 also appeared somewhat darker and discolored compared with the surrounding teeth.
When pulp necrosis progresses, the tooth may change color in this way.
After middle age, aesthetic prosthetic treatment may also be an alternative.
Orthodontics can be considered one of the representative methods for improving dental alignment. However, as age increases, the condition of the gums and alveolar bone must be sufficiently taken into account.
In many cases, using prosthetic treatment instead of long-term orthodontics may be advantageous for restoring function and aesthetics at the same time.
In particular, if the gums are in relatively poor condition, moving the teeth may create additional strain, so a careful approach is necessary.
At our Bongcheon-dong dental clinic, treatment plans for patients in their 50s and older are established by comprehensively considering the condition of their teeth and gums.
Treatment Plan Combining Implants, Crowns, and Laminates

2026.04.20 ~ 2026.05.03
In this case, the discolored and weakened tooth No. 21 was extracted and replaced with an implant, while crown treatment was planned for teeth No. 14, 25, 35, and 45.
For the remaining anterior teeth, RealNate was applied to create overall aesthetic harmony.
This type of approach, which combines several treatment methods, can be considered one of the indications for senior laminate treatment that may be applied to middle-aged patients.

Rather than simply making the front teeth white, our Bongcheon-dong dental clinic selects restorative methods suited to each patient’s oral condition so that functional stability and a natural appearance can be improved together.
We comprehensively examine the changes in dental alignment, wear, fractures, and discoloration that have developed with age.
Instead of treating all teeth in the same way, we appropriately combine implants, crowns, and laminates according to their condition, which can lead to a higher level of completion and satisfaction.

Because the shape can also be adjusted while considering the normal meeting of the upper and lower teeth, this may help alleviate the problem of repeated collisions between the front teeth.

In particular, the length of the mandibular incisal edges and left-right balance can be adjusted together, allowing for more stable function.
From an aesthetic perspective, colors and shapes that harmonize with the natural teeth can also be planned, reducing an artificial appearance.
As people age, it is necessary to consider dental characteristics and facial proportions that differ from those of younger people, making an individualized approach important.
At our Bongcheon-dong dental clinic, we believe that this comprehensive perspective can be the key to increasing long-term satisfaction.
The various changes in the oral cavity that occur with age are often not merely aesthetic issues; occlusal and functional factors frequently play a role as well.
Therefore, please comprehensively consider various methods, including not only orthodontics but also crowns, laminates, and implants, and receive appropriate treatment after sufficiently considering your current oral condition, gum health, and occlusal relationship.
Thank you for reading.
