"My shaving marks keep looking dark and shadowy."
"Waxing hurts, and
it makes my skin sensitive too."
Many people probably have concerns about body hair in various places.
Shaving and waxing are not only something you have to repeat regularly, but they are also inconvenient and can be quite irritating.
For that reason, more and more people seem to be considering 'laser hair removal' as a longer-term method that is less irritating to the skin.

Today, for those people, we will explain the procedure for laser hair removal along with the things you should definitely check before treatment.

What kind of procedure is it?
Laser hair removal is, as the name suggests, a procedure that uses laser light to weaken the root where hair grows (the hair follicle).
To explain a little more specifically, the laser reacts to the pigment in hair (melanin) and generates heat, and this heat selectively destroys the hair follicle.

In this process, it works by focusing on the root area where hair grows while avoiding irritating the surface of the skin as much as possible.
So, unlike regular waxing or shaving, which only remove the hair visible on the surface,
the hair gradually becomes finer, its density decreases, and its growth rate slows down.

Also, many people seek laser hair removal because of pigmentation or skin trouble caused by repeated skin irritation from frequent shaving or waxing.
It can be an alternative for people with sensitive skin who find physical hair removal uncomfortable.

Does all the hair disappear after just one treatment?
It would be nice if all hair could be removed in one session, but laser hair removal cannot eliminate all hair with just one treatment.
The reason is that the hair on our body each has a different growth cycle.
Because the laser works effectively only on hair that is actively growing (the anagen phase), multiple treatments at 3–6 week intervals are needed.
Also, although it varies from person to person, in general, 5–8 or more sessions are needed by area to expect sufficient results.

And sometimes, some people worry that hair seems to grow more after treatment.
After laser hair removal, hair that has not yet fallen out may appear to be pushed up out of the skin temporarily.
However, this is not actually new hair growing; it is simply a phenomenon in which hair left inside the existing follicle is gradually pushed out during the skin renewal process.
It usually falls out naturally within a few days, and after that you can gradually feel that the amount and thickness of the hair decrease.

Precautions before/after treatment
If you are considering treatment, please be sure to refer to the following.
- Before treatment
Do not pluck or wax the hair.
The hair follicle may be destroyed, which can reduce the effectiveness of the laser.
Also, it is best to minimize exposure to ultraviolet rays and stop using strong-irritation products (AHA, retinol, etc.) for a few days before treatment.

- After treatment
Because the skin may become sensitive, please avoid steam rooms, saunas, and strenuous exercise on the day of treatment.
Moisturizing and using sunscreen are essential.
Temporary redness, itching, or tiny scabs may appear in the treated area, but most improve within a few days.
