Hongdae Shrink,
If you understand it properly, it lasts longer without side effects

“Does Shrink really lift the face?
But are there no swelling or side effects?”
Many people in their late 30s and older look in the mirror and feel that they don’t look the same as before.
Because the eye area or jawline has sagged, and the skin looks dull, they start searching for Shrink.
However, there is so much information online that it is hard to tell what is accurate.
Shrink is certainly an effective lifting device, but to get results that last without side effects, the procedure must be done the right way.
Today, I’ll explain step by step the exact principle of Shrink, the differences from other lifting treatments, and why side effects occur and how to prevent them, based on what I have personally confirmed through treatment.

Principle and effects

Shrink is a procedure that uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology to create heat of 60–70 degrees Celsius in the dermis and SMAS layer inside the skin, inducing collagen regeneration.
It restores elasticity by stimulating the dermis and SMAS layer without damaging the outer skin.
For Shrink, where and with what intensity the energy is delivered is much more important than how many shots are used.
If too much energy is applied to areas with thin skin or little fat, pain or swelling may occur.
On the other hand, if the procedure is done too weakly in areas with severe sagging, the effect will be reduced.
In general, 300 shots are recommended for the full face, and about 600 shots for cases with severe sagging.
For partial treatments such as the eye area or jawline, it can be adjusted to around 100–200 shots.

Before the procedure, skin thickness is measured with ultrasound, and 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm, and 4.5 mm cartridges are combined according to the area.
Through this process, energy is delivered evenly, which can increase the effect while minimizing side effects such as swelling and heat sensation.

Differences from other lifting treatments

When looking into lifting procedures, the device most often compared with Shrink is Ulthera.
Ulthera also uses the HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) principle, but it differs in that it has stronger energy per shot and allows treatment while viewing ultrasound images.
It has the advantage of a longer-lasting result, but many people feel burdened by the greater pain and higher cost.
On the other hand, Shrink is designed to suit the skin thickness and response of Korean skin, with gentler output and faster recovery.
That is why it is often chosen by people who want improved elasticity without interfering with daily life.

Thermage uses radiofrequency (RF) energy, not ultrasound, to broadly heat the entire skin layer.
It is stronger for improving skin texture, elasticity, and pores than for lifting itself.

InMode is a procedure that delivers radiofrequency through tiny needles.
Its lifting intensity is weaker than Shrink, but it is suitable for those who want overall improvement in skin quality.
These days, many people are looking for a “cost-effective lifting” treatment.
Shrink, which has less pain and recovery burden while still producing stable results, is considered one of the most balanced choices among lifting procedures.

Why side effects happen,
and how can they be reduced?

Most side effects of Shrink occur when the depth or intensity of the energy is not properly controlled.
For example, if a deep 4.5 mm cartridge is overused on someone with thin skin, nerve pain, pain, or bruising may occur.
Also, if a device that is not using genuine cartridges is used, the energy may be uneven, increasing the risk of an uneven skin surface or burns.
Another common reaction is swelling or a feeling of tightness, which is a normal response that appears during the collagen regeneration process.
It usually subsides within 2–3 days, and during this period, saunas, strenuous exercise, and alcohol should be avoided.
After the procedure, rather than using ice packs, it is better to calm the skin with a soothing cream or cooling sheet mask, and you must apply sunscreen for faster recovery.
I always tell patients that half of the procedure is completed through aftercare.
Using genuine equipment, the hands of an experienced practitioner, and proper aftercare
Only when all three are in place does it become true “safe lifting.”
If you are planning a Hongdae Shrink procedure, be sure to remember these three things.
First, check for genuine equipment and experienced medical staff.
Second, energy adjustment that suits your skin thickness and elasticity is important.
Third, let your skin rest for three days after the procedure, and continue sun protection and soothing care consistently.
Shrink is a scientific regenerative lifting treatment that naturally restores elasticity by allowing collagen to be reborn inside the skin.
If you want satisfying results while minimizing side effects, get enough consultation at a place that uses genuine equipment and receive a customized procedure.
That way, you can regain the elasticity and contours that suit your face best.
I hope this article becomes a standard for safe and wise decisions for those considering Shrink.
