“Can removing a mole leave a scar?”
The most common question during mole removal consultations is about scarring.
Even though moles may look small, the degree of tissue damage varies depending on how deep they are in the skin, so the result can differ greatly depending on “how they are removed.”
Even with the same laser, marks may remain or the skin may recover cleanly depending on the treatment depth, energy level, and aftercare.
Today, I’ll explain one by one the key principles and care points for minimizing scars after mole removal in Sinchon.
How to Avoid Scarring After Mole Removal in Sinchon

What is the treatment principle?
Moles are lesions (nevi) formed when melanin pigment cells are concentrated in the dermis.
During mole removal, CO₂ lasers or Pico lasers are mainly used.

The CO₂ laser (carbon dioxide laser) removes moles by using a wavelength of 10,600 nm to vaporize cells with a high water content.
In other words, it works by using heat to ablate not only the pigment but also the surrounding tissue, so it is suitable for raised moles or deep moles.
However, if it is applied too deeply, dermal damage can leave scars, so controlling the depth is the key for the practitioner.

The Pico laser delivers strong energy in an extremely short time (in picoseconds) to finely break down melanin pigment through photomechanical shock.
Because there is almost no heat damage to the surrounding tissue, it is suitable for moles or pigmented lesions in the epidermis or shallow dermis.

How to Avoid Scarring
The skin consists of the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue, and the dermis is an elastic structural layer rich in collagen fibers.
If this layer is damaged excessively, the skin can become sunken or red marks can remain for a long time.
To prevent scarring during mole removal, the following three things are important.

- Energy settings matched to the depth of the mole
Rather than applying a uniform energy level to everything, shallow moles in the epidermis are treated with lower energy, while moles extending into the dermis are treated with somewhat stronger energy.
- Protecting the surrounding normal skin
To prevent unnecessary heat spread, the area around the treatment site is cooled or a protective ointment is applied.
- Treatment intervals that consider tissue regeneration
If a mole is deep, it is better not to remove it strongly all at once; instead, the procedure should be done step by step, allowing time for the tissue to recover.
In other words, it is more important to remove only the necessary layer accurately without skin damage than to erase it strongly all at once.

Care methods to prevent scars
After mole removal, care during the skin regeneration stage is extremely important.
That is because for two weeks while the dermis is recovering, ultraviolet rays, bacterial infection, and friction are the biggest risk factors for scarring.
For days 1 to 3, it is best to cover the wound with sterile DuoDERM or a regeneration patch to prevent secondary infection.
Be careful not to let water touch it when washing your face, and if the patch does not fall off on its own, it is better not to replace it.

From days 4 to 7, if a scab forms on the treated area, you should wait until it falls off naturally.
Minimize skin irritation and be sure to use sunscreen thoroughly.
Even after day 7, if the scab has fallen off naturally, the skin is still weak. Keep applying a repair cream consistently.
For two weeks, it is best to avoid strong sunlight, saunas, and exercise that causes a lot of sweating.
Redness or pigment changes are mostly temporary inflammatory reactions and will usually improve naturally after some time.
If this stage is managed well, hyperpigmentation or scars will hardly remain.
Today, we talked about which points are important if you want to avoid leaving scars after mole removal in Sinchon.
It was necessary to choose a laser suited to the depth of the mole, precisely control the treatment depth, and thoroughly manage early regeneration.
Even small moles can be treated by accurately calculating the depth of tissue damage, and if the skin barrier is well protected during the recovery period, the skin can heal cleanly without scars.
I hope this post was helpful for those who were worried about what would happen if a scar remained after mole removal.
