Hongdae Lhalafill vs. Aquafill,
Which peeling is better in winter?

“Because it’s winter, a lot of dead skin cells have come up.”
“I want to care for dead skin cells,
but won’t my skin get even drier?”
In winter, skin tends to become more sensitive, so even a single skincare product can start to feel like something to worry about.
In particular, cold weather and dry conditions make dead skin cells stand out more clearly, but many people hesitate because they think a peeling treatment might be irritating.
Peeling is a treatment that helps regulate the skin’s turnover cycle,
but during periods like winter, when the skin barrier is weakened, methods that cause less irritation and help with moisturizing and barrier strengthening may be safer.
Today, let’s look at Lhalafill and Aquafill, two peels that are often compared in winter.

What kind of treatment is Lhalafill?

Many traditional peeling treatments strongly remove the outer layer of the skin, so redness or irritation after treatment was not uncommon.
By contrast, Lhalafill can be seen as a peeling method that keeps the surface firm while organizing the skin’s internal environment.
Rather than peeling the skin by using acids to remove it, Lhalafill focuses on changing the skin’s structure itself using three components: LHA, alkali, and a lipid membrane.

- LHA
LHA is a derivative of salicylic acid (BHA). It has a larger molecular size than salicylic acid and is more oil-soluble, so it penetrates the skin slowly.
As a result, it helps gently shed dead skin cells at the cellular level while reducing irritation, helping to clean up the skin relatively thoroughly from within.
- Alkali ingredient
Alkali plays a role in dissolving proteins.
When dead skin cells build up a lot, the bonds between cells become stronger, and the alkali ingredient helps loosen these connections so the dead skin cells can naturally fall away.
Rather than forcibly stripping the surface, it feels more like the inside is being organized.

- Lipid membrane
The lipid membrane ingredient included in Lhalafill helps protect and strengthen the skin barrier during the peeling process.
It does not just act as a protective layer; it also supports various physiological functions such as cell growth, helping the skin become firmer overall.

What kind of treatment is Aquafill?

Aquafill is a blend of Aqua and Peel, and it is a treatment that removes impurities, sebum, and dead skin cells from within the skin by using both chemical peeling and mechanical peeling.
Its defining feature is that it thoroughly cleanses the skin from the inside out through a three-step solution.
- AHA
It gently dissolves old dead skin cells and impurities on the skin’s surface and helps clear pores.
- BHA
Using oil-soluble BHA ingredients, it helps remove sebum, blackheads, and whiteheads.
- AO solution
Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and aloe help relieve dryness after treatment and replenish moisture.

In this way, Aquafill can be described as a peeling treatment that carries out cleansing and hydration all at once.
So, which peeling is safer to receive in winter?
It would be hard to say Aquafill is unsuitable, but during a season when skin becomes dry and sensitive like winter, Lhalafill may feel more comfortable.
That is because it focuses more on strengthening the skin barrier than Aquafill does.
In winter, cold winds and indoor heating can easily weaken the skin barrier, and even if you add moisture in this state, the weakened protective layer can cause it to evaporate quickly.
Because Lhalafill is a peeling that emphasizes barrier strengthening, it can be received relatively safely in such a season.

What treatments are good to receive together?

Even if you receive Lhalafill once, dead skin cells, skin texture, and dryness will not all be resolved immediately.
Usually, several sessions are needed, but if it is difficult to visit frequently, combining it with other treatments can be another option.
Treatments often chosen together in winter include Rejuran and Juvelook Skin.
Rejuran uses PN (polynucleotide) as its main ingredient and aims to improve the skin’s internal environment and support regeneration.
Meanwhile, Juvelook Skin helps increase skin elasticity by inducing collagen production, and positive changes can also be expected for enlarged pores and fine lines that appear in winter.

Both Hongdae Lhalafill and Aquafill are relatively low-irritation peeling treatments, but if choosing the one that is more suitable for winter, Lhalafill may be a slightly better fit.
However, since Lhalafill alone cannot solve every skin concern,
considering treatments such as Rejuran or Juvelook Skin together may also be an option.
