Hongik Univ. Station Ulthera
How Can You Improve the Effect?
"If you get Ulthera,
aren’t the results always good?"
Many people think this way.
It is not completely wrong.
Ulthera is one of the most powerful devices
among non-surgical lifting treatments,
and many people have been satisfied with it.
But even when receiving the same Ulthera treatment,
there are cases where the results are clearly different.
Some say the jawline became more defined,
while others say they do not notice much difference.
To improve the effect, you need to understand
where that difference comes from.
Today, I’ll explain the principle behind
how Ulthera creates a lifting effect,
what is important to improve the results,
and even the actual outcomes confirmed in studies.

How does it work?
Ulthera is a device that concentrates
ultrasound energy deep within the skin
to generate heat.
This heat reaches the SMAS layer.
The SMAS layer is a thin fascial tissue
located deep in the skin,
and it acts as a structure that supports the entire face.

As we age, this SMAS layer loosens,
and the entire skin begins to descend.
Ulthera concentrates heat of 60°C or higher
in this layer to contract collagen
and induce the production of new collagen.
The important point here is that
Ulthera also has an ultrasound imaging function.

Before the procedure, the internal structure of the skin
can be checked in real time,
so you can see whether the energy is being delivered
at the correct depth.
Even among ultrasound lifting treatments,
the results vary depending on whether the energy
reaches the desired layer accurately.

What effects were confirmed in studies?
There are clinical study findings
showing how much effect Ulthera actually produces,
so let’s take a look.

This study involved participants aged 25 to 55,
who received one Ulthera treatment
and were followed for up to one year.
It analyzed lifting effects on the midface and lower face.
Below is the change in a 50-year-old female participant
before the procedure and 24 weeks after.

The sagging below the jawline was improved,
and the cheek area appeared to have
lifted overall.
The numerical results are also noteworthy.

At the 6-month point,
93% were judged as improved by blinded evaluators,
and 85% of participants said they were satisfied.
What is noteworthy here is that
these results were maintained even after one year.
Usually, lifting effects diminish over time,
but in this study, the scores at 6 months and 1 year
were almost identical.
What this means is that
Ulthera did not simply tighten the skin temporarily,
but created structural changes that lasted for about one year.

What should you look at to improve the effect?
There are also many reviews saying that
even the same Ulthera treatment can produce different results.
The reason could be seen in the study.

In the study, two tip depths were used:
3.0 mm and 4.5 mm.
3.0 mm targets the deep dermis,
while 4.5 mm targets the SMAS layer.
If only one depth is used,
the deep layer may be addressed but the surface may not change,
or, conversely, only the surface may be stimulated
while the deep structure remains the same.

In addition, how energy is set for each area is important.
Even within the same face,
skin thickness and fat volume differ by area.
Using high energy in a thin area can cause
hollowing or pain,
while using low energy in a thick area
may make the effect weak.
That is why the study used lower energy
for the forehead and temples,
and higher energy for the cheeks and under the chin.
In the end, to improve the effect of Ulthera,
how it is performed matters more.
Rather than looking only at the name Ulthera,
you should also examine the detailed plan that follows.
The performance of the Ulthera lifting device
at Hongik Univ. Station has already been sufficiently verified.
As confirmed in studies,
a single treatment can maintain its effect
for about 6 months to 1 year,
and side effects were reported only as temporary swelling
and discomfort.
However, the key to improving results is not the device,
but the plan.
How much sagging there is in each area of your face,
what your skin thickness and fat volume are like,
and how depth and energy are combined accordingly
will determine the outcome.
If you want to properly see the lifting effect of Ulthera,
we recommend consulting sufficiently with medical staff
who can create a plan suited to your face,
rather than focusing only on the device name.
