Radio frequency vs. ultrasound

When looking for lifting treatments, you will often come across the terms "radio frequency lifting" and "ultrasound lifting."

Both methods have the common goal of improving the skin by inducing collagen production, but they differ in how they work and in the depth to which the energy reaches.

Radio frequency lifting applies thermal energy broadly to relatively shallow layers and is used to improve overall skin elasticity.

Ultrasound lifting works on a slightly different principle.

Just as sunlight is focused onto a single point with a magnifying glass, ultrasound energy is concentrated deeper within the skin to create thermal coagulation points at those locations.

By delivering energy down to the fascial layer called the SMAS layer, it can help lift sagging skin and define the facial contour.

Faster and more precise

Shurink Universe is a device based on this ultrasound lifting method, released as an improved version of the original Shurink to address its shortcomings.

Compared with the previous-generation Shurink, there are notable changes in the irradiation method.

The original Shurink used a method in which 17 thermal coagulation points were applied in a dot pattern with each pass.

It was precise, but the treatment time was long, which made it feel burdensome.

One of the biggest changes in Shurink Universe is the addition of MP mode alongside the existing dot-type irradiation mode.

MP mode creates about 400 thermal coagulation points at once in a line, with multiple points connected and delivered in a line pattern.

With the addition of MP mode, treatment can now be selected or combined according to skin condition and purpose.

Thanks to this, the treatment speed has changed dramatically as well.

If it took about 10 to 15 minutes to deliver 300 shots with the original Shurink, Shurink Universe is about 2.5 times faster, making the same amount of treatment possible in 3 to 4 minutes.

MP mode is characterized by its use of strong energy, which can also be expected to help with fat breakdown in areas with more fat, such as the double chin or buccal area.

For areas that need focused care, such as the cheeks or double chin, a customized treatment can also be designed by combining it with MP mode.

The addition of a pen-type handpiece is another change.

The existing bar-shaped handpiece could sometimes lift slightly at both ends on curved areas such as the forehead, cheekbones, and temples.

When this happens, the shots may not be delivered accurately to the desired depth.

The pen-type handpiece delivers shots in a ring (circular) pattern, allowing better contact even on curved areas and making it possible to reach them without gaps.

Its advantage is that it can also be used more easily on delicate areas such as around the eyes and mouth.

The biggest concerns before a lifting treatment are pain and recovery time.

Thanks to the 2.5-times faster treatment speed and the more precise focusing method, Shurink Universe generally reduces the burden of pain.

However, the level of discomfort can vary depending on an individual’s skin condition and sensitivity,

so it is important to fully adjust the number of shots and intensity during the consultation before treatment.

In terms of recovery after the procedure, there is almost no special downtime.

Mild redness or swelling may appear immediately after the treatment, but in most cases it is possible to return to daily life the same day or the next day.

There is one thing worth knowing in advance.

Ultrasound lifting works through a process in which collagen gradually regenerates after the procedure, and the effects appear over time.

Many people begin to feel the full lifting and tightening effects about 3 to 4 weeks after the procedure,

so even if you do not notice changes right away, there is no need to be too anxious.
