Why Does It Keep Recurring?

It is easy to think of acne simply as a “temporary skin problem that appears on the surface.”

However, it is not merely a problem on the skin’s surface; it is closer to a chronic inflammatory condition that begins in small structures within the skin.

Let me explain this in a little more detail.^^

Our skin has small openings called pores, where hair grows, and attached to the inside of each pore is a gland called a sebaceous gland that produces oil, or sebum.

Together, these are called the pilosebaceous unit, and acne can be considered to begin here.

When sebum production increases due to hormonal and other stimuli, and the dead skin cells at the pore opening become thicker, the path for sebum to escape becomes blocked, trapping it inside.

Afterward, acne-causing bacteria multiply by feeding on the trapped sebum and release substances that irritate the skin.

As the body responds to this irritation, it can lead to inflammation that becomes red, swollen, and filled with pus.

The problem is that this process does not simply go through one cycle and end.

As long as sebum continues to be produced and the pores become blocked again, this process keeps repeating like a hamster wheel.

This is why acne repeatedly appears in the same spots.

Why Extractions Alone Cannot Resolve It

When bacteria and inflammation are added, it becomes a red, swollen papule or a yellow, pus-filled pustule. If it becomes deeper and firmer, it can progress to a nodule or cyst.

2. Is there a risk of it leaving scars or hyperpigmentation?
