“When do Sofwave results

start to appear?”

We often hear this question during consultations.

That is because some lifting treatments show results right away,

while others take time.

So today, I’ll explain when results from Sofwave begin to appear

and how much improvement you can expect.

There is relevant clinical research available,

so I’ll explain while reviewing it.

What is the principle behind Sofwave lifting?

First, we need to understand

how the lifting effect is produced.

Sofwave uses ultrasound

to create heat at a depth of 1.5 mm

within the skin,

specifically in the layer called the “mid-dermis.”

Sofwave target depth

The dermis is the layer where collagen and elastin

are most densely concentrated.

When heat zones are created here, collagen

is partially denatured

and then newly formed afterward.

Meanwhile, the epidermis is continuously cooled

by a cooling device,

so the treatment does not work by burning the surface

or causing scabs.

That means you can return to your daily activities

immediately after the treatment.

However, there is one important point to note.

Because the deeper layers are not treated,

heat is concentrated in a single dermal layer,

so the warmth felt during the procedure

is by no means mild.

I’ll discuss this part

with specific figures later.

2. Hongdae Sofwave

When does it start, and how much improvement can be expected?

Let’s look at the results of a study.

In this clinical study, 36 people with mild to moderate

skin laxity received one Sofwave treatment,

and their results were measured with a 3D camera

one month and three months later.

The study measured the “depressed volume”

of the nasolabial folds and marionette lines,

meaning the lines that extend from the corners of the mouth

down toward the chin.

The measurements and analysis were performed not by the person who administered the treatment,

but by evaluators who did not know which treatment each participant had received.

The results showed that the depressed volume

clearly decreased in all four areas.

At the three-month mark,

the nasolabial folds had decreased by approximately 11–12%,

and the marionette lines by approximately 15%.

Let’s also look at when

the results began to appear.

At one month, already two-thirds to three-quarters

of the participants showed improvement.

There was not much additional change

between one and three months.

Unlike other lifting treatments in which the effects gradually appear

up to three months,

most of the changes appeared within the first month.

How painful is it?

When people hear “ultrasound lifting,”

they often ask whether it is painful.

Let’s also look at the pain measurements taken immediately after treatment

in the same study.

The average pain score was

6.64 out of 10.

However, in this study, numbing cream

was not routinely applied.

Therefore, it was difficult to compare the results

with other lifting procedures

that routinely use numbing cream.

Because people can experience pain very differently,

if you are particularly sensitive,

it is a good idea to discuss numbing cream

or energy adjustment in advance.

No adverse effects after the treatment

were reported in this study.

There were no cases of reduced sensation, burns,

or lingering swelling,

and participants returned to their daily activities immediately after treatment.

In summary, you may feel some heat

during the procedure,

but the discomfort that remains afterward

is generally limited.

If you are considering Sofwave in Hongdae,
