Hongdae Dermatology Clinic,
Is it okay to have
several lifting procedures
together?
(Department: Dermatology)

>
> so would it be okay to have several lifting procedures
>
> all at once when I do come in?”
There were more people than expected who wanted to experience different lifting procedures, such as Ultherapy and Thermage, but wanted to have them done at once because they did not have much time.
I fully understand the desire to have all the procedures you wanted done in a single day, since it can be difficult to visit a dermatology clinic several times.
However, you should remember that undergoing several procedures without sufficient consultation and diagnosis may instead place an excessive burden on your skin.
From now on, I will explain in detail why consultation should come first, as well as how to determine when it is appropriate—and when it is not appropriate—to have several procedures together.

Why Consultation and Diagnosis Should Come First
Before Lifting Procedures
Whether several lifting procedures can be performed together can only be properly determined after thorough consultation and diagnosis.

Skin thickness and sensitivity, patterns of elasticity loss, the amount of fat, and the current condition of the skin barrier often vary from person to person.
If you have recently undergone another laser treatment, peeling treatment, or injectable procedure, your skin may still be recovering, so these factors also need to be checked carefully.
If these factors are not properly assessed, stimulation may instead accumulate in the skin, and in severe cases, side effects such as inflammation or burns may occur.

Therefore, if you are planning several lifting procedures at the same time, you should first carefully determine through consultation and diagnosis whether each procedure is truly necessary for your current skin, whether having them together would place too much strain on your skin, and, if you proceed, what order and intensity would be appropriate.

When It Is Okay to Have Several
Lifting Procedures Together
Then, based on what criteria is the possibility of combining lifting procedures determined through consultation and diagnosis?
First, I will explain how to determine when it may be appropriate to have several lifting procedures together.

The structure of human skin
One of the main criteria is whether different skin layers need to be addressed in a complementary way.
For example, Ultherapy Prime is a lifting procedure that uses focused ultrasound to stimulate the deep dermis and fascial layer, helping improve facial contours.
Thermage FLX, on the other hand, uses monopolar radiofrequency to deliver broad thermal stimulation throughout the dermis, helping improve pores, skin texture, and fine lines.

Because their treatment depths, energy-delivery methods, and purposes differ in this way, the two procedures may have complementary effects when combined.

However, it is important to note that choosing to combine procedures simply because their targets differ may be risky.
The total amount of energy the skin can receive at one time, its recovery capacity, and its sensitivity must all be considered, so it is important to remember that a decision tailored to each individual’s condition is necessary.

When Caution Is Needed with
Combined Lifting Procedures
However, caution was needed with combined lifting procedures in the following situations.

A healthy skin barrier and a weakened skin barrier
First, when the skin’s condition is significantly compromised.
When the skin barrier is weakened, the skin may redden easily even with minor stimulation, or recovery may be delayed.
In such cases, having two or three or more procedures at the same time may increase the burden on the skin.

Second, when you need to return to your daily routine immediately.
Even if each procedure individually has an expected short recovery period, combining them may cause swelling, redness, or dryness to last longer than expected.
Therefore, if you have an important event coming up or need to return to your daily routine immediately, the decision to combine procedures should be made even more carefully.

Third, when you are trying to combine only procedures that involve overly strong stimulation.
For example, if several types of lifting procedures are combined and each is performed at a high intensity, the overall stimulation received by the skin may increase considerably.
Since this may increase skin barrier damage as well as the risk of swelling, pain, and burns,
I would recommend, whenever possible, proceeding with procedures involving strong stimulation gradually and with sufficient intervals between them.

If you do not have time to visit Hongdae Dermatology Clinic frequently, considering combined lifting procedures may be one option.
Having several procedures together is not always a problem in itself.
In fact, when different skin concerns have different causes and need to be treated at different depths, combining procedures may be helpful.
What matters, however, is not the number of procedures but the overall level of stimulation the skin receives.
Therefore, after sufficiently assessing your current skin condition, the treatment depth and level of stimulation of each procedure, and your recovery capacity,
I would like to emphasize that you should carefully decide whether to combine procedures.
I hope today’s post was of some help to those of you who were considering combined procedures because you are busy with your daily lives.
