One of the most common questions from people considering laminates is:
“How many times do I need to visit the clinic?”, “Does it take a lot of time?”
Today, I’ll explain the laminate procedure step by step in an easy-to-understand way.
- Initial Consultation and Detailed Diagnosis
This is the most important stage.
-
Check the condition of the teeth and gum health
-
Analyze tooth shape, color, and alignment
-
Determine whether laminates are suitable
-
Discuss the number of teeth and the design direction
📌 Time required: about 30 minutes to 1 hour
📌 At this stage, excessive treatment is avoided, and if other treatment is needed, you will be informed first.
- Tooth Shaping and Impression Taking
If laminates are needed, an impression is taken after minimal tooth reduction.
-
The amount removed is usually about 0.3–0.5 mm
-
In some cases, no-prep or minimal-prep may be possible
-
An impression of the teeth is taken and sent to the lab
📌 Time required: about 1 hour
📌 There is almost no pain during the procedure, and anesthesia is used if needed
- Temporary Teeth Wear (if needed)
To reduce discomfort until the final restorations are completed, temporary laminates are worn.
📌 Usually worn for about 3 to 7 days
- Laminate Bonding
This is the stage where the finished laminates are attached to the teeth.
-
Final check of color and shape
-
Adjustment of the bite (the feeling when biting)
-
Fixed in place after bonding
📌 Time required: about 1 hour
📌 This is the stage that determines how natural the result will look
What is the total treatment period?
✔ Usually 2 visits
✔ Total period: about 1 week
Final Summary
Laminate treatment is not simply a procedure that just “sticks something on.”
It is a treatment in which design, precision, and the clinician’s experience are important.
Even if you invest a little more time, going through enough consultation and the proper process
can lead to results you will be satisfied with for a long time.
