Hello, I’m Choi Joong-hyeok, the director specializing in nose and facial contour surgery at Seoul Plastic Surgery in Apgujeong.
The type of nose commonly called a bulbous nose is one that, when viewed from the front or side,
has a low bridge, wide and flared nostrils, and appears blunt.
It can be improved by raising the bridge and tip overall using an implant or autologous cartilage,
or, if necessary, by narrowing the nostrils.
Case of a bulbous-nose consultation
It can be improved by raising the bridge and tip overall using autologous cartilage,
or by performing nostril narrowing at the same time.

A female patient in her 20s wanted to improve the parts of her nose that she felt self-conscious about
and came to Seoul Plastic Surgery in Apgujeong because she was considering a natural-looking, refined nose surgery.
She was concerned that the tip of her nose looked flared from the front and wanted it to be slimmer.
Looking at the preoperative side photo, her bridge was on the low side, so
she said she wanted a sharp nose line with a straight-bridge profile from the side.
Nose surgery plan

Because the patient’s nostrils were wide, we performed a narrowing procedure to reduce the flared alar area.
In addition, since there was a slight hump from the side, we smoothed it down
and then placed a thin layer of silicone on top to improve the profile.
To raise the tip naturally and firmly,
we used septal cartilage to lift the tip.
Analysis of photos after nose surgery
These are the postoperative photo results.
The patient’s nose was improved into the natural straight-bridge line she wanted.

Because the amount of septal cartilage inside the patient’s nose was sufficient, we were able to create a firm support structure,
and the flared nostrils seen from the front were neatly improved.

What is nostril narrowing surgery?
Nostril narrowing surgery can effectively improve cases where the nostrils appear excessively broad.
It can also produce effective results when the nostrils and alar cartilage are large and flared.

The first step in nostril narrowing is to remove the side skin of the nasal wing in a wedge shape
and tie the area between both nostrils with sutures to bring the tip area together.
Many people think that removing and stitching the skin will leave a noticeable scar,
but because the incision line remains along the boundary between the nostril and the cheek, the scar is hardly noticeable.

In this post, I introduced a successful case that achieved satisfying results through nostril narrowing surgery and a surgical method suited to the individual.
This has been Choi Joong-hyeok from Seoul Plastic Surgery in Apgujeong. Thank you.
