Hello, this is Dr. Choi Junghyeok of Apgujeong Seoul Plastic Surgery.
Today, I’d like to explain a hump nose surgery case using actual patient photos of a nose with a noticeably protruding bridge.
What is a hump nose?
A hump nose refers to a nose in which the bridge, where the nasal bone, upper lateral cartilage, and septal cartilage meet, protrudes excessively in the middle area.
Unlike the image of a smooth and soft nose, a hump nose with a blunt protrusion can create a sharper and stronger impression.
It is also often accompanied by symptoms such as septal deviation, and patients who hope to improve these issues visit for surgery consultation.
Actual patient consultation and surgery case

Using an actual patient case, I will document the consultation process for hump nose surgery and the postoperative progress.
The patient had long felt self-conscious about the profile image caused by the nose bridge protruding outward, and wished to improve the bridge so it would suit the face better and appear smoother and more feminine.
Hump nose surgery method
Hump nose surgery removes the hump made of cartilage and bone using a precise knife and osteotome.
When the hump on the bridge is shaved down, the bridge becomes lower, so silicone can be inserted into the bridge to build it to the desired height.
For noses with a relatively high bridge, surgery can also be performed without an implant. Even without inserting silicone into the bridge, it is possible to create a nose shape with a natural, moderate height.
The existing, relatively drooping nasal tip cartilage is repositioned so it can connect naturally with the bridge line, and then septal cartilage is harvested and placed on top of the nasal tip cartilage to raise it.
Osteotomy
Nasal bone osteotomy is a method in which the nasal bone is intentionally fractured so it can be moved, and then brought inward toward the center.
Because the nasal bone can be moved freely after osteotomy, it can correct a crooked bridge or a wide bridge in patients whose nasal bone shape needs adjustment, and it can also control the width of the bridge area.
It can also improve the bridge line to look more three-dimensional and defined.

One month after hump nose surgery

This is the patient’s nose photo one month after hump nose surgery.
The protruding hump on the bridge was shaved down, and a thin layer of silicone was placed to make it appear smoother.
The drooping nasal tip was raised by harvesting the patient’s septal cartilage, with consideration for a natural connection to the bridge line.
After surgery, you can see that the bridge area became smoother and the nose shape changed to a more refreshing, straight line.
The image changed from masculine to softer, and the patient was satisfied as well.
Three months after hump nose surgery

This is the front view.
The bridge, which was slightly wide before surgery, was refined and made slimmer through osteotomy, and you can also see that the wide nostrils became narrower.
After three months, the line from the bridge to the nasal tip appears more stable,
and we completed a natural hump nose surgery while maintaining the original image the patient wanted.
If you are curious about hump noses or are considering surgery,
please visit in person and find a nose that suits you through a one-on-one consultation with a specialist.
Thank you.
