Yeongdeungpo warts,
Why do they spread on the skin, and how can they be managed?

'At first I thought it was something like a corn
and tried to peel it off,
but it spread to other areas and I was shocked...'
Many people mistake warts for corns or calluses and then are surprised one day to find that one has turned into three, or that a similar lesion has appeared on a family member as well.
Warts can be easily confused with other skin conditions based on appearance alone, but in fact they are a viral skin infection, so early treatment is important.
So today, we will take a step-by-step look at why Yeongdeungpo warts develop, how contagious they are, and how they are treated.

Why do warts appear?
Warts are a skin condition caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) invading the skin and triggering abnormal cell growth.
The skin acts as a protective barrier against external irritants, and if even a tiny amount of damage occurs to that barrier, HPV can slip in through the gap.

Because it can enter through even the tiniest gaps in the skin, which are difficult to see with the naked eye, prevention is extremely difficult.
Warts continue to replicate themselves inside the cells, causing the cells to grow abnormally fast.
As a result, they develop into raised, bumpy papules on the skin surface, forming the lesions we call warts.
Normal skin / Skin with wart lesions
HPV currently has more than 100 identified types. Among them, dozens of types specifically infect the skin surface and cause warts.
Depending on which type invades, the form and location vary, such as common warts that mainly appear on the hands and feet, plantar warts that dig deep into the sole, and flat warts that spread in a flat pattern on the face.

They are often confused with calluses or corns, but if you lightly shave the surface of a wart, very small red dots may be visible. These are cross-sections of capillaries newly formed by the viral infection.
Another characteristic is that the skin lines do not continue naturally through the wart area; instead, they appear to break off abruptly.

Why are they so easily contagious?
The reason warts spread so easily also comes down to the fact that they are caused by a virus.
HPV viral particles are present inside wart lesions.

If you touch or scratch it, those particles can come off, and if you touch another area of skin, the virus can move there and cause a new infection. This is called autoinoculation.
One point that especially requires caution is that it can spread easily even without any visible major wound.
Even a tiny microscopic break in the skin surface, or a very small crack caused by dryness, can allow the virus to enter.
It can also spread to others through shared towels, bare feet on the floor of a public shower room or bathhouse, or indirect contact with objects touched by hands that have warts.

How should they be treated?
Wart treatment usually uses a laser.

The laser energy is focused on the wart lesion to remove the virus-infected area.
The number of treatment sessions and the intensity vary depending on the type, size, depth, and location of the wart.

For example, warts that are deeply rooted in the sole, such as plantar warts, may require more repeated treatment.
After removal treatment, it is important to observe the area for a certain period of time.
Because recurrence and reinfection are quite easy, regular monitoring and confirmation of whether it returns is essential.
Today, we looked at the causes, contagiousness, and treatment methods for Yeongdeungpo warts.
Because warts are a highly contagious viral skin condition, treatment is most effective when they are properly distinguished from other skin conditions.
Before treatment, I hope you receive a proper diagnosis of the affected area through a consultation, and that you get treatment at a clinic that will create a treatment plan based on the wart’s condition and depth.
