Itโs time for a long-awaited update from Forena!
Todayโs topic is whether fair skin or dark skin has an advantage when it comes to procedures!

I heard that if your skin tone is dark, procedures donโt work as well.
Iโve seen that said on the internet too,
and Iโve even seen comments like that in skin-related communities..
So for everyone who says that, we prepared this post.

If your skin is dark, are treatment results lower?
Until we actually see the skin tone of the person who has concerns, there is no 100% answer.
That said, having darker skin can also mean having more melanin,
and laser procedures (pigmentation conditions, hair removal, lifting, etc.)
often target melanin, so in those cases it may have an effect.
Also, in procedures that use multiple wavelengths of light, such as IPL,
because they use light, it is possible that it may be absorbed by melanin in darker skin!
However, what people in Korea often call dark skin is actually
not that dark in many cases to the point where it would significantly affect the procedure.
So even if you think of yourself as having dark skin, if you consult with a specialist,
identify your skin type, and proceed accordingly, there should be no problem!

Then is fair skin
better for dermatology procedures?
You canโt say that fair skin is always better!
First, it does have an effect on laser procedures and procedures that target melanin,
but for procedures that improve redness (flushing, acne marks),
when hemoglobin rather than melanin is the target, skin color doesnโt matter!
Also, even if there is a difference in skin color, whether a procedure is possible or not can depend on
many factors such as skin condition, moisture, elasticity, and more,
so thinking, โMy skin is fair, so dermatology procedures will definitely work well!โ
is a risky assumption!

Skin issues that are easier to occur when the skin is dark (more melanin)
These are all skin problems that can occur regardless of skin color,
but when they appear on dark skin, they stand out more, like vitiligo,
so they often affect daily life and become a concern!
If thereโs a chance, Iโll cover this separately!

Skin issues that are easier to occur when the skin is fair (less melanin)
If there is less actual melanin pigment, the skinโs defense against ultraviolet rays is lower,
so there are many skin problems that happen inevitably,
so please be sure to pay attention to sunscreen and to protection when going outside!

Then are there cases where natural traits have more influence than skin color?
Of course! There are so many different reasons!
Skin type such as dry skin / oily skin / normal skin / combination skin / sensitive skin
Cases influenced by genetic factors, such as acne and atopic dermatitis
The rate of skin aging, which differs from person to person
Whether the skin barrier function is naturally strong
Also, lifestyle habits, diet, and environmental factors
(for example, whether the country you live in is a desert or a forest haha..)

Then isnโt being born with fair skin an advantage?
Not at all.
As explained above, even with fair skin, there can still be other skin concerns,
and in many cases, the difference between lighter and darker skin tones as categorized in Korea
is not significant enough to have a real effect.
Also, rather than deciding on a procedure based on your own judgment of your skin color,
I hope you will always consult with a specialist before making a decision!

Next time, Iโll definitely cover the topic I promised,, haha
I forgot,,,,,
Please let me off just this once..!!!!!!
Then if todayโs information was helpful,
please leave a comment and a like, and Iโll come back next time with another interesting topic!
