Hello, this is Dr. Lee Bo-hyeong from Note Plastic Surgery.
Today, we’ll take a look at rib cartilage.
Q. Is donated rib cartilage more likely to cause inflammation or contracture?

Compared with autologous rib cartilage,
donated rib cartilage has a very slightly higher chance of inflammation or contracture,

If I had to explain this in percentages,
I’d say the difference is about 1–2%, based on my experience.

However, because of this chance, it cannot be considered a material that should not be used.

As always, there are many factors influenced by each individual’s condition, postoperative care,
and living environment,
so I hope you’ll keep this in mind.
Q. Is rib cartilage used only for revision surgery?

No.
It is not used only for revision surgery.
In the case of a first surgery, that is, when a large amount of material is needed,

that means it is for someone who wants a more elaborate nose,
so we strongly recommend using rib cartilage.
