Hello, this is Director Lee Bo-hyung of Note Plastic Surgery.
Today, I’d like to talk about something that people who have had nose surgery often worry about.
Q. Implant replacement

There are two major types of plastic surgery that involve inserting an implant,
that is, a foreign material, into the body:

nose surgery and breast augmentation.
For both of these surgeries, patients seem to ask this question very often:

“Do I need to replace it as time passes?”

Questions like, “I heard it has to be replaced every 10 years,” and so on.
To answer first,

if there are no functional or aesthetic problems,
it is fine to keep it without replacing it.

However, very occasionally,
for people who had nose surgery a very long time ago,

there are cases where an L-shaped implant was used.
In this case, because the silicone keeps pushing against the nasal tip,

as time passes, the skin on the nasal tip becomes thinner and thinner,
and the tip may easily turn red.

In this kind of situation, if inflammation develops
or the silicone becomes exposed outside the skin,

the surgery becomes much more extensive.
So if you had surgery using an L-shaped implant and are still okay for now,

but feel that the skin is gradually getting thinner
and that the nasal tip feels somewhat uncomfortable,

I think it is necessary to check the current condition in advance,
before side effects occur.
