Hello. I am Kim Hyung-taek, the chief director of Kowon Plastic Surgery.
In this response note, a question was submitted about treating ear scars caused by earlobe piercing, that is, ear keloids.
I will be answering that question.

Q. About earlobe keloids that formed after earlobe piercing
A few years ago, I had my earlobe pierced, but maybe because I did not take good care of it, an ear keloid formed..
I thought, "Will it go away in a few days?" but after leaving it alone, the ear keloid on the pierced earlobe became very large.
My mother told me to go to the hospital, so I went to a dermatology clinic, but they said the size was too large and that I should go to a surgeon.
So I went to a surgery clinic, and they said treatment was possible, but that after treatment the shape of my ear could change, so my mother opposed it. Then the doctor said that if I went to a plastic surgery clinic, treatment would be possible, so I am planning to go to plastic surgery.
Can ear keloids be treated at a plastic surgery clinic?
If you look at the question, it seems that after getting a piercing in the earlobe, the person did not know how to care for it properly, and an ear keloid formed.
The size appears to have grown quite large, so the concern also seems significant.
To answer the question about the ear keloid that can form after earlobe piercing,
A keloid is when tissue sometimes hardens and protrudes after a piercing, and even if it is removed, it can recur.
That is why there are various treatment methods for keloids, and in plastic surgery, several methods are used to help prevent recurrence.
I can say that removing the keloid and pressing on it with magnets can lower the chance of recurrence.
You must have been upset because of the keloid, and I hope you get a good result through proper care.
