Hello. I’m Kim Hyung-taek, the representative director of Kowon Plastic Surgery.
In this answer note, someone asked a question after developing a lump at the ear-piercing site following an ear piercing.
I’m here to answer that question.

Q. I’m worried about a lump at the pierced part of my ear — I think it may be an ear keloid.
It has been about 2 years since a lump formed at the pierced part of my ear. It’s an old ear keloidㅠㅠ
I’ve been living without paying much attention to it, but it’s uncomfortable when people around me keep pointing out that there’s a lump at the pierced part of my ear, so I want to get treatment.
Is there no other way besides surgery or injections?
There is no blood or pus at all, and I don’t know what I should do.
Please note that the photo above may be a little disturbing.

Please tell me how to treat an ear keloidㅠㅠㅠ

Would salt water or tea tree oil be effective?
From your question, it seems that a lump formed at the ear-piercing site 2 years ago and was left alone, perhaps because you thought it would be fine.
And it seems that, starting at some point, you received a lot of comments about the lump, which caused stress and led you to ask this question.
What appears to be the lump at the pierced part of your ear is an ear keloid.
Because keloids have a tendency to recur even after removal, there are also various treatment methods for keloids.
They may be removed with steroid injections or surgery.
Even after removal, ongoing treatment is needed to prevent recurrence.
As for the salt water and tea tree oil you mentioned, they do not seem likely to be effective.
I hope you get a good result from the surgery.
