Hello. I am Kim Hyeong-taek, CEO of Kowon Plastic Surgery, pursuing healthy beauty.
Today’s question is from someone who had nose surgery at a non-specialized hospital last year and is now considering revision surgery, with concerns about using donated rib cartilage.

Q. Is revision rhinoplasty possible with donated rib cartilage after nose surgery at a non-specialized hospital?!
Hello. I am a 20-year-old woman who had nose surgery at a non-specialized hospital last year without knowing anything because I was young and naive.
I went ahead with the surgery without knowing anything, so I’m not sure whether it was because I had the surgery at a specialized hospital or not, but my rhinoplasty was a total disaster.
So this time I’m getting revision surgery at a large hospital in Seoul, and they said that because my septal cartilage has already been used, they will use ear cartilage and donated rib cartilage together.
But I later found out that donated rib cartilage is said to cause inflammation easily, and above all, it gets absorbed, so the nose eventually drops again...ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
Then isn’t revision surgery pointless...?
Does the absorption rate differ from person to person?
If so, should I make it higher than the height I want at first, taking into account that it will drop?ㅠㅠ I’m so worried..
I really don’t want to fail a second time, but I haven’t seen many recommendations for donated rib cartilage.
But at this hospital, they said it would only come out beautifully if they use donated rib cartilage..
Please give me an accurate answerㅠ

I completely understand that you are very worried because this is revision surgery.
It seems that, since your septal cartilage has already been used, you are planning to proceed with revision surgery using ear cartilage and donated rib cartilage.
You asked because you are concerned about donated rib cartilage.
The absorption rate of donated rib cartilage varies slightly from person to person.
It does not get absorbed to the point where the nose completely drops; rather, only part of it is absorbed, and this differs from person to person.
So if you are very worried, please discuss your concerns thoroughly with a specialist before surgery, and have a detailed conversation about whether there are materials that can be used instead of donated rib cartilage and how the height of the nose should be set.
I hope you get a good result.
Thank you.
