Q. I had chin surgery with dissolvable stitches, and I’m worried the chin stitches might come loose.

It has been 10 days since my chin surgery.

�

They said the dissolvable stitches would take about a month to dissolve.

Until a few days ago, I had pain when there was pressure on my chin, but now I don’t.

Instead, when I eat, I can’t open my mouth very wide, and the stitches in my chin are making me very uncomfortable.

I’m being so careful because I’m worried the chin stitches might go wrong, so I can’t really eat properly and have mostly been eating porridge.

The clinic only told me not to use straws, not to gargle when brushing my teeth, and not to put pressure in my mouth. But if I just eat normally, is there no risk that the chin stitches (dissolvable stitches) will come loose?

How long does it take for the wound inside the mouth to heal? I’ve been worrying about the stitches and being careful this whole time, but do I have to keep living like this until the dissolvable stitches completely dissolve? ㅠ

Also, after the surgery, I didn’t do cold compresses, and after 3 days I started using warm compresses. Is it okay to do cold compresses now?

If it is currently day 10 after chin surgery, cold compresses are not very meaningful.

Warm compresses are more helpful at this stage, and the chin stitches (dissolvable stitches) will naturally disappear over time, so there is no need to worry too much.

Also, even if the stitches come out at this point, it will not cause a major problem. After about 10 days, the wound is almost completely healed.

�

So you do not need to eat only porridge; you can eat the foods you want. You can also brush your teeth comfortably.
