Hello. I’m Kim Hyung-taek, CEO and chief surgeon of Kowon Plastic Surgery, specializing in noses.
Today’s post is about a question from someone who has a wide nasal bridge bone and a long face shape: if they undergo nasal osteotomy, will their face look longer?

Q. Will osteotomy of the wide nasal bone make the face look longer?
First of all, my face shape is on the long side, but not extremely so.
It’s more like the vertical length is greater than the horizontal width?! Especially the middle part of my face is long..ㅠ
Looking at the first photo, from the front my bridge seems to be absent, and you can probably see that the nasal bridge bone is wide.
So compared to the side view, the nose looks especially low from the front.
Since my face is on the long side, if I make the bridge thinner through osteotomy, will my face look even longer?
If, even though the bridge looks absent from the front, osteotomy would make my face look longer, then I don’t want to have the osteotomy.
I’m wondering whether, if I undergo osteotomy of the nasal bridge bone, the separated feeling will make my face look longer... or whether the cheek area becoming more noticeable during the osteotomy will compensate for the long appearance...
As for the nose shape, I’m thinking about a semi-curved or slightly straight-curved shape.
Because of the nasal bridge bone, when I wear glasses or sunglasses, it seems like the bone gets pressed down...
I feel pain in the area where the bone protrudes more ㅠㅠㅠ
Please reply..

If the width of the nose is reduced through osteotomy, the nose will naturally appear longer.
However, while performing nose surgery, it is possible to reduce the appearance of a long nose to some extent by actually shortening the nose length or slightly lifting it.
Therefore, whether it will look longer is something that would be helpful to discuss in detail with the doctor who will perform the surgery during the consultation.
I hope this answer was helpful.
I wish you a good result.
Thank you.
