Q. After rhinoplasty, can swelling be reduced by pushing the silicone implant into place?

It has been 2 weeks since my nose surgery.

Right now, the bridge of my nose is completely shifted to the left.

The hospital where I had the surgery said they need to wait until the swelling goes down to know for sure, and told me to come back in about a month.

But I don’t think it is because of the swelling.

After rhinoplasty, on the left side I can feel the silicone implant extending from the start of my eyebrow, but on the right side there is no silicone at all at the start of the eyebrow.

If my nose is indeed crooked when a month has passed after rhinoplasty, then I really would have to undergo revision surgery..

But I truly do not want to have revision surgery.

I heard that between 1 and 2 weeks after rhinoplasty, you can use your hand to push the silicone implant into place. Can I push it to the right now??

I am tired of being told to contact the hospital where I had the surgery.

They only keep saying to wait until the swelling goes down after surgery.

Pushing it into place by hand after rhinoplasty is possible.

For up to about 3 weeks, the silicone implant has not completely settled into place, so it can move to some extent, and in practice people do sometimes push it by hand to help it settle.

However, in many cases, when it is pushed by hand, it only moves to the desired position temporarily and then returns.

So rather than pushing it once or twice, you need to keep gently but firmly pushing it toward the opposite side for it to settle properly. A light push will not have much effect; you need to push with some actual pressure.
