Today’s question is from someone on day 6 after rhinoplasty, asking whether blood showing after stitch removal means there is a complication from the nose surgery.

Q. After stitch removal, is this a complication from nose surgery? Is there inflammation inside the nose?

It has now been 6 days since I had open rhinoplasty.

The surgery was done using silicone and ear cartilage.

On day 5, some stitches in part of my nose were removed.

There was a little bleeding when the stitches were removed.

Today, on day 6, when I looked in the mirror, there seems to be a pus-like substance or something like that in the inside of the nose where the stitches were removed. T_T Is this a complication from the nose surgery?

I haven’t had all the stitches removed yet, so I’m going back to the hospital, but I’m worried that this might be a complication from the nose surgery.

Does it normally bleed a little when stitches are removed?

And this is unrelated to the current symptoms, but before the surgery, because of sinusitis and rhinitis, I frequently had inflammation inside my nose and discharge that looked like pus.

Could this also affect complications from the nose surgery later on?

This is a normal phenomenon.

A small amount of bleeding can occur when stitches are removed.

The substance you described as looking like pus is likely not actual pus, so you do not need to worry too much about inflammation inside the nose.

Since antibiotics are being used appropriately and the area is being disinfected,

if you follow the hospital’s instructions well, complications from the nose surgery such as inflammation inside the nose are unlikely to occur.
