Hello. I’m Kim Hyeong-taek, the CEO and lead surgeon of Kiwon Plastic Surgery, who adjusts the position of the nose within the overall facial balance.
Today’s question is from someone experiencing swelling and nose pain after rhinoplasty caused by an implant used for nasolabial fold surgery, and they said they contacted us because they were worried about what to do to solve it.

Q. I’m uncomfortable with swelling and nose pain after rhinoplasty due to a nasolabial fold implant
I had nasolabial fold surgery last Friday.
I think the implant used for the nasolabial fold surgery was size 6.
I was fine on the first day, but by Monday evening, only my left cheek felt so swollen from the swelling after nose surgery that it seemed like it was about to burst. I also felt a foreign-body sensation, and the area around the implant was numb and throbbing, so much that I couldn’t even put a cold pack on it.
The most serious problem is that I can’t feel my upper lip.
..
If it were my own surgery, it wouldn’t matter, but this was done on my youngest sibling.
My sibling is on the verge of depression...
Please help.
I’m not sure whether the nasolabial fold implant has moved or whether it simply doesn’t suit my sibling.
The doctor keeps saying to wait, but my sibling won’t stop crying.
What should we do about this?
Should we look into getting an injection to reduce the swelling?

The swelling is usually at its worst around 3 to 4 days after surgery.
As the swelling goes down, the nose gradually settles into place.
So for now, the only option is to wait while watching the condition over time.
Of course, if there are signs of inflammation—such as swelling, nose pain, redness, or pus—the nasolabial fold implant must be removed right away. But if it is not inflammation, you need to give it time.
Loss of sensation in the upper lip is a symptom that sometimes accompanies nasolabial fold surgery, and it will gradually return as the swelling subsides.
The degree and speed of sensory recovery vary from person to person, so in some cases it can take several months to return.
I completely understand how frustrating this must feel right now, but as long as it is not inflammation, it should improve with time.
I hope you get a good result.
I hope this consultation answer was helpful.
Thank you.

This is a case of non-incisional alar reduction for a patient in an older age group.
The nose was short with an upturned tip, and the surgery was performed inward, so no scar is visible from the outside.
From the front, you can see that the nose has become narrower.

This case created a natural and feminine line through non-open rhinoplasty.
Compared with the condition before, when there was a deviated septum, the bridge of the nose was changed into a more refined shape, giving a more polished impression.

For a patient whose nose was broad and round like a bulbous nose, alar reduction was performed through nasal bridge osteotomy.
During open rhinoplasty, nasal bridge osteotomy and septal extension were performed to narrow the spread-out bridge of the nose.
The impression, which had seemed plain due to the low bridge, was changed into a more defined and glamorous look.
