Hello, I’m Kim Hyung-taek, the CEO surgeon of Kwon Plastic Surgery.
Today, I’d like to talk about hump nose surgery, which is a concern for many men as well.
A nose with a prominent bridge can create a strong impression, but depending on the angle and shape, it can also make the face look somewhat heavy or sharp.
In this post, I’ll explain in detail, along with real cases, so it can be helpful for men considering hump nose surgery.

Q. What type of surgery is best for a man’s hump nose surgery?
After visiting several plastic surgery clinics, there are currently two hospitals that I like.
At the first hospital, I was told that although my nose has a fairly severe hump, the overall size and shape of my nose are fine, so open surgery could cause functional problems and be difficult to revise.
So the suggested method was to go through the inside of the nose and perform hump nose osteotomy. If I wanted to raise the area between the eyebrows a little more, they said an implant could be added.
They also explained that rather than shaving only the hump, they would shave the sides as well, and that over time the bone could grow back relatively. In my case, they said it would be fine to consider a second surgery, and overall the cost was relatively low.
At the second hospital, they explained a method that would first perform severe hump nose osteotomy through open surgery, then add silicone to the bridge and use ear cartilage to raise the tip of the nose.
Both hospitals made convincing points, but I’m wondering which surgical method would be better for hump nose surgery.
For male nose surgery, which option do you think is more appropriate?

Hello. This is Kim Hyung-taek, a plastic surgery consultant on HiDoc-Naver Knowledge iN.
In the case of men, compared with women, there are many cases where they have less information about the overall process and results of plastic surgery, so they may be more careful when making a surgical decision.
Because rhinoplasty differs depending on each person’s nose shape, the methods suggested by each clinic can differ even in the same situation.
The reason the methods for male nose surgery differed at the two clinics you consulted was also because of this difference in perspective.
At the first clinic, it seems they explained a relatively simple non-open procedure to trim only the hump.
If you want only the hump to be removed naturally, this method may be suitable.
On the other hand, if the bridge is wide and the overall size of the nose also feels large, then refining the overall structure, like the open surgery suggested by the second clinic, may be more appropriate.
In the end, the important point is not which hump nose surgery is better, but how much change you want in your nose.
If it is difficult to judge, it is a good idea to directly ask the clinic how the results would differ when each surgical method, such as hump nose osteotomy, is performed.
Also, if you are still undecided, it is a good idea to visit a few more clinics and hear different opinions.
I hope you make a good decision and get a satisfying result.
Thank you.

When looking at the overall impression of the face, the nose was low and small, giving a somewhat flat rather than three-dimensional look.
In particular, the midface appeared sunken, while the lips seemed relatively protruded.
In this case, the surgery focused on refining the shape of the nose with emphasis on the aesthetic line rather than functional improvement.

The change in the side profile was especially noticeable.
As the hump that had bulged out in the middle of the nose was removed, the overall balance of the face became much more stable.
In this case, since the bridge itself was relatively high even before visiting the plastic surgery clinic in Nonhyeon-dong, the depressor muscle was removed and a corrective procedure was performed to pull that muscle downward.
In addition, the tip of the nose was slightly raised to add definition, completing a more harmonious side profile.

When performing osteotomy during a crooked nose correction surgery, there is also a possibility that the amount of septal cartilage may be insufficient.
In preparation for such cases, we provided a full explanation beforehand that if there was a shortage, ear cartilage could be harvested and used.
This case was performed at 'Kwon,' known as a specialist in male nose surgery, and although the photos were taken immediately after surgery, the swelling was not severe and the recovery progress was fairly good.
