Hello, I’m Dr. Kim Hyung-taek of Kowon Plastic Surgery.
Because the nose is located at the center of the face, surgery can create a large change in appearance, and if the result is different from what was expected, many people feel psychologically startled or regretful.
In particular, surgeries that significantly change the shape of the nasal tip, such as upturned nose surgery or hump nose correction, can make the nose look very noticeable right after surgery, which may lead some people to consider revision rhinoplasty.
During consultations, I try to listen carefully to the patient’s concerns and desired direction, and explain the possible results and recovery process as realistically as possible.
Rather than making excessive changes, the most important thing is choosing a method that harmonizes with one’s own face, and if necessary, the timing of revision rhinoplasty must also be adjusted carefully.
Also, in cases such as upturned nose surgery, the result often settles naturally over time, so it is better not to rush to a judgment and to wait long enough for recovery.
Swelling and changes immediately after surgery are a natural process, and over time they gradually blend in with the original face.
I try to explain these recovery stages and the changes that may occur after nose surgery as realistically as possible to reduce unnecessary anxiety.
Today, based on an actual patient inquiry, I will answer questions about situations that lead people to consider revision rhinoplasty and how to view the changes after upturned nose surgery.
I hope this helps those who are going through similar concerns.

Q.
I had nose surgery a week ago, but I started regretting it just three days later.
I originally had a hump nose and an upturned nose, and my nostrils were a bit large as well, so during surgery I had the hump reduced, cartilage osteotomy and fixation, and nostril reduction done together.
My nose was originally on the high side, so when the splint was removed, I became concerned that it looked too obviously surgically altered. It feels like the kind of upturned nose often called the Gangnam style these days...
I wanted the hump correction in the first place, so that part is fine, but can the rest be returned to how it was before? Right now, I feel unfamiliar with the changed image and I’m very worried.

Hello. This is Dr. Kim Hyung-taek, a plastic surgery consultant on Hidoc-Naver Knowledge iN.
It seems that you are experiencing anxiety and regret after surgery and are considering revision rhinoplasty. In fact, right after nose surgery, many people feel awkward because their appearance changes significantly due to upturned nose surgery or hump nose correction.
After nose surgery, swelling remains and the overall shape has not yet fully settled, so rather than deciding on revision rhinoplasty immediately at this stage, a little more time is needed. Usually, as the swelling goes down and recovery progresses, the noticeable surgical look from upturned nose surgery fades and the result becomes more natural.
Also, the reactions of people around you and your own level of satisfaction may change over time, so it is better to observe the result with some patience. However, once the hump has been corrected, it is difficult to reverse, and there are limits to restoring the other parts 100% to their original appearance.
In conclusion, rather than considering revision rhinoplasty or re-correction of upturned nose surgery right now, it would not be too late to wait at least a few months before making a decision.
I wish you a good outcome.
I hope this consultation answer was helpful. Thank you.

Hello, I’m Dr. Kim Hyung-taek of Kowon Plastic Surgery.
I’d like to introduce a case of a short bulbous nose and upturned nose where the nasal tip can be extended as much as possible.
In the case of a short nose, especially one with an upturned nasal tip, the overall line of the nose looks more beautiful when the tip can be extended sufficiently and with enough room.
Because the lower face can appear sunken, balancing the entire face becomes possible, so how much the nasal tip can be extended is an important key to the success of the surgery.

As you can see in the photo, the nose is short and upturned overall. Even from the front, it is an upturned nose with the nostrils visible.
And overall, the nose is small.
In a nose this small, there are many cases where the septum is not sufficient to be used for surgery.
In such cases, the operation should be performed using costal cartilage or ear cartilage so that enough material can be secured.

And in the side photo, you can see the alar base buried into the cheek.
As the columella and the entire nose are pulled forward, the bulbous nose has improved,
and the buried alar base has become more visible, creating a refreshed and lighter impression.

Looking at the changed nose line before and after surgery, the previously very round and blunt 느낌 has become a refined bridge that is appropriately natural yet feminine.
At the same time, the design was made so as not to lose the somewhat cute, round impression from before surgery.

Let’s look at the changed photo from a 45-degree angle.
From the side, the image that used to look somewhat plain because the mouth protruded,
changed into a much more refined and feminine impression as the overall volume of the nose was created.

This photo was taken and recorded in the operating room immediately before and after surgery.
Since it is immediately after surgery, there is still swelling, but the improvement is much greater and the bulbous nose line can be seen.
The previous bulbous nose and upturned nose appearance have disappeared, and the face has changed into something natural and feminine.
