Front view before surgery / after surgery
Hello.
I am Director Lee Won of 21 Plastic Surgery.
Today, I’d like to talk about the recovery period after lower eyelid fat repositioning, along with an actual patient case, since many people inquire about it.
This surgery is most often preferred by people in their 30s and 40s, but in this age group, many are working or have children, so they often ask about the recovery period and precautions.
So the most common question we receive is,
“How long should I plan for the recovery period after lower eyelid fat repositioning?”
However, the recovery period after lower eyelid fat repositioning is not especially short.
Lower eyelid fat repositioning involves repositioning the fat in front of the cheekbone, and during this process, the surrounding tissues are stimulated and bruising occurs.
Bruising may last about 1 to 2 weeks at minimum, but in some cases the surgical area can remain bluish for more than a month...
So, using an actual patient who underwent lower eyelid fat repositioning surgery, I will explain the recovery period after lower eyelid fat repositioning.

Front / side view before surgery
The patient was a woman in her late 20s who visited us because her dark circles had recently become more noticeable and her under-eye area looked flat, making her seem older.
The patient did not have severe protrusion of under-eye fat or significant skin laxity, but the tear trough beneath it was formed to a certain degree.
After carefully evaluating the degree of orbital septum bulging, the traction strength of the tear trough ligament, and whether the midface fat pad had descended, we chose a transconjunctival approach without skin incision.

Front / side view after 1 week
From immediately after surgery to about one week later is the period with the most bruising and swelling, and the patient also had some bruising and swelling, but by filling out the under-eye aegyo-sal, there is a clear difference compared to before^^

Front / side view after 1 month
This is after one month.
The swelling had almost completely subsided, and the repositioned fat had naturally adhered into place.
The under-eye dark circles had also decreased noticeably, and simply by restoring volume to the aegyo-sal under the eyes, the overall facial image became softer and brighter.
The patient was also very satisfied, saying that among her friends, she often heard that she looked less tired than before^^

Front / side view after 2 months
Finally, this is the appearance after 2 months.
At this point, the surgical area had fully settled, recovery after lower eyelid fat repositioning had progressed normally, and the under-eye area that once looked hollow and tired due to dark circles had changed into a brighter, more refreshed appearance.

Recovery process before surgery / after 1 week / after 1 month / after 2 months
Lower eyelid fat repositioning is not simply a surgery that removes fat.
Rather, it is a procedure that preserves the fat that is needed and appropriately fills in sunken areas to improve the overall contour and beauty of the face.
However, after lower eyelid fat repositioning surgery, there may be concerns if the correction is not sufficient, or if the swelling goes down more slowly than in other people.
In the case of recovery after lower eyelid fat repositioning, time is often the best medicine.
There may be discomfort right after surgery, but if you continue with proper aftercare and swelling management, you will be able to achieve much better results.
Going forward, I will continue to study and work hard as a doctor for my patients’ beautiful transformations.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us anytime^^
Thank you.
